All the end of steam Merchants went to the same place as far as I recall - i.e. J Buttigeig in Newport, a yard near to Cashmores. Sadly for MN enthusiasts, this yard worked on locomotives (rather than wagons) and so few locomotives survived for long. In fact I don't think many locomotives, if any, escaped from there.

There isn't really a lack of MNs preserved, it is just a lack of restored ones. I don't think this would be affected much by having had more preserved!

34081's completion gets ever closer. Painting is almost complete and we're into mostly the relatively few remaining small jobs. A couple of deadlines have been missed but that's nothing new for a project like this.
Here's a view of the Wakefield Bekijk bijlage 23419 lubricators that reside under an apron in front of the smoke box.

Horrible things - driven off the rh valve gear but the drive stroke is reduced as the gear is linked up. Going faster, get less oil  Good job the drivers drove on the regulator and not the gear. And then if the atomisers leak back the rear box gets full of water - cue an hour turning a wheel in a hole to get oil back to the atomisers.

So, in july 2017, what engines are likily to be availible for any end of southern Steam celebration,?
Clan line, British india line, braunton, Manston. 257 Squadron, 92 Squadron, Sir Archibald sinclair, Sir Keith Park, Taw valley, 34081 ( sorry cant remember squadron number)
i make that a possible ten engines, its a pity Eastleigh is very busy these days with no space, add the dead engines, Winston Churchill, Wadebridge, , thats got to be some show.

I don't think 34059 is due out until 2018 (see Bluebell thread), 35018 is anyone's guess but I wouldn't depend on it!

    So that leaves you with:

    34027
    34046
    34053
    34070
    34072
    34081
    34092

    35006
    35028

Perhaps someone from the NYMR could give us an informed update about 34101. I think the latest is 2018 looks the most likely for its return but there is an outside chance of 2017, but I am only going on comments on this forum.

I'm sure that the Southern-based heritage lines and the main line charter operators will ensure 2017 will be a memorable year for Southern steam (and as far as the main line is concerned, it can't be worse than 2016!) but it's good to think that after 2017, there's going to be plenty to whet the appetite with 34028, 34059, 34105 and 35005 likely to be back in business before too long.

The thing about atomisers letting condensed steam into lubricators can happen on any steam loco with mechanical lubricators, not just Bulleids

Maybe, but it only seemed to happen with the Westcountry. Maybe the fact that the lubricators are at or above atomiser height on the other locos I've worked on prevents it.

The only currently running original Bulleids are 70 and 92, although 72 and 81 aren't far off.

I would hope other lines in the country might think this would be a good theme as well the SVR has a good start and would only need to bring in a few locos to make it work 35006 would be good

I would like to think a collaboration between the 3 Southern based railways would be better than a GWR branch line in Shropshire? Railtours between the 3?

Atomisers passing steam is not a problem unique to Unrebuilt Bulleids.

Isn't one of the SVR Bulleids going to the Mid Hants for the celebration there?

Possibly, maybe going from what I've heard.............................. but I'll believe it when I see it...............

Remember, this is still in the planning stages, so all sorts of loco's are "in the frame" to attend, one things for sure though if last weekend is anything to go by, its promises to be a not to be missed double weekender!! :):):)
