I don't personally believe any of the Orbital's routes are in areas that, in the current climate, can generate enough traffic to warrant a Network Rail service. An extension of the existing heritage services, effectively paid for by a third party, is a nice bonus though.

To comment on your original question, the NNR's normal service timetables in operation March-October now all have paths for extra trains throughout the day, since they were re-jigged slightly a year or so ago. So extra services, correctly timed, are technically very much possible.

There would be another big hurdle to running Greater Anglia services through from network rail to Holt, and that is the level crossing and signaling installation required at Sheringham. I think figures of around £1m were bandied about at the time the connection was made.

As well as another level crossing as soon as the proposed line leaves the Holt NNR station. And is the plan to go under Station Road in Holt town centre, and build a new station further west from the site of the original station? It just seems like a huge undertaking to me. But then I have no knowledge of building railways.

The B12 arrived back from the Bluebell on Friday and was dragged at low speed to Weybourne midmorning the same day. It has had its annual C exam today (Sunday 6th) and has been dragged outside with a warming fire ready for its insteam exam. The Y14 is also warming through ready for photocharters on Monday and Tuesday.

Another great blog I totally agree about the vintage carriages personally I think the NNR/M&GN should have the vintage train in daily service and get more vintage carriages like the Isle of Wight have.

Except, then their most beautifully restored Mk1s would be superfluous. One day (when I win the Euromillions) I would love to see an M&GN set and a GER 4-6 wheeler set and I am really looking forward to BTK 295

I take it the plan is still for the WD to re-enter service in BR black?

As far as I know - Yes it is. There's a lot of black paint hanging around!

The tender tank was put on to its frames last week. More painting and needle gunning from some volunteers will make it good! Cab fittings and cladding have started to go back on too.

In other news, Ring Haw left for a Christmas holiday helping out over at Peak Rail. B12 and 9f have had washouts last week as well as little running repairs

So the only steam locos on site at present are the B12, Y14, 9F and WD? Guess the extra space must be handy for working on the WD?

Correct Hicks19862. The group supports the running and maintenance of the engine. There's three membership options, taken from the Facebook page...

By becoming a Friend of Black Prince, not only will you have the satisfaction of knowing that you’re making a difference in keeping ‘Black Prince’ running, but you could be in line for some great benefits too (there’s even an Apprentices club for children!).

FIREMAN’S CLUB: £5pm. Membership period: Indefinite. Benefits: Welcome pack (which will including a FoBP badge and certificate), free travel at FoBP members’ day, opportunity to purchase tickets on FoBP lunch train.

DRIVER’S CLUB: £20pm for 50 months or £1000. Membership period: 10 year term. Benefits: Everything above plus: Free travel at FoBP members’ day plus complementary lunch train for you and a friend, entry into the quarterly draw for a footplate ride on No. 92203 at the North Norfolk Railway.

BLACK PRINCE APPRENTICES: £12 per year junior membership for children from five up to 16-years-old. Annual benefits: FoBP Apprentice badge, poster, birthday card, brake van ride on FoBP members’ day, opportunity to join the NNR Junior Club.

Get in contact with us today for more information. Email friendsofblackprince@gmail.com

Hopefully, it's well supported. The Facebook page is a good source of updates on the engine and the work being carried out, especially with the winter works that are coming up.

Currently in the sheds we have Wissington being sandwiched by the WD engine and tender, the railways DMU boogies (being overhauled by volunteers on Tuesday/Wednesday's) and the Y14 on the middle road, and the 03, 08 and 20227 on the road next to carriage and waggon.

Outside the shed, there's the B12 and 9F outside roads 2 and 3, class 25 and class 11 on road 1 and the class 31 on the bay road. Class 37 is just outside C&W

I thought the 20 was going home for the winter Joe, has the plan changed or is it being hidden in an attempt to try and keep it?

I hope if it stays it is getting a lick of green paint. the TfL livery is rather fun but a touch incongruous on a railway where (barring a Balfor Beatty liveried TRAMM) the stock is pretty much entirely pre-BR Blue

20227 was of the last batch that were delivered in blue though! Must admit the LU livery does nothing for me, but LU did pay for its last repaint... As preference I'd like Railfreight Red Stripe.
