If you're in dining class then it's not the end of world, as you're being wined & dined ! I'd imagine The 47 will be on full power for most of the trip and this is why a lot of people would of bailed out ! Kudos to the people who remained.

That great vision called hindsight tells us that if both Panniers had been sent on the test run then the bearing problem with 9600 might have been discovered. But I for one don't hold that against them. The good news is that this issue delayed nothing else, I think, and the switch to the diesel was possible in a sensible place at Tyseley.

So sad for everyone. The Lickey will have to be another day.,

Amused by some heard to be saying if they get off at Moor Street they shall ask for a refund for a part journey... Lol

Tour still running, looking forward to a pint and food in Worcester, an on time departure and hearing 9466 working up the Lickey. VT making the best of unfortunate circumstances.

47 doing all the work. Saved a water stop at Rowley Regis to catch up some time. Intending to depart Worcester on time with 9466 on the front and the 47 assisting from the rear. Assurance given that the Pannier will be working on the return. Not quite what we hoped for but a pragmatic solution.

Was supposed to be on today but somehow ended up sleeping through my alarm and by the time I did wake up it was way too late to get down in time, even if I went to join at Stratford. :( Gutted doesn't even begin to describe how I felt! All I can say is thanks to everyone at Vintage Trains for still going ahead with the run, despite all things conspiring against them.

Presumably with the test run for the 94xx being for mainline certification double heading wouldn't be an option?

As someone who is following this from a God awful dank rainy afternoon in Cambridge. I'd just like to say nice one Vintage Trains easy option would have been to cape it earlier on, so hats off for keeping it running. I'll also just say this there is a Pannier tank running on the mainline today, now isn't that something we should be grateful for?

Better to run the tour with the Duff helping out then cape the train and really ruin peoples day.

Just so. That said, the train in Standard emptied out quite a bit at Moor Street for all the reasons you can understand.

I can and can't understand the reasons why,

Id rather get my monies worth, then bail out half way through a day, even if the replacement wasn't to my liking, but maybe its easier for some to write off that kind of money,

Better to make the best of a bad day then bail half way through, well in my book it is,

Have either of you considered that not everyone lives in the Midlands and once the tour was 100 minutes late, their return travel arrangements may have been thrown into complete disarray and baling out in Birmingham was the only sure fire way of them guaranteeing they'd get home?

He does make a good point though,
but with a duff assisting at least the train will be quicker getting to the speed the trains limited to so always a chance it could claw a few mins back,

It's all to do with priorities. If you make a round trip of 250/300 miles for a specific purpose and it's not going to happen then you reassess. Yes, money will have been lost but that's the risk. People in dining had decent food they would be missing. I think less of them bailed out.

I'm not carping. It's one of those things and many others did the same as me, probably for a whole range of reasons.

Will it still wait for almost an hour at Bromsgrove?

No. It was made clear that we would leave Shrub Hill on time so no stress about late return to Tyseley.

I'm sure it will but once a train is delayed by that much, who knows what will happen to it in the end?
