Looks like an HC, so I guess its No 17. It certainly isn't Austin 1 or Welsh Guardsman.

Looks like ex Dalmellington iron company Barclay side tank, latterly of Waterside Colliery system then stored for many years at Tanfield.
Its a sister to No 10 at Lakeside which masquerades as Thomas.
Might be wrong but seem to recall its now a Mr Walton Binns project?

My heart sank when I read that; please tell me that you are mistaken and Mr B hasn't got his grubby mitts on the pride of Dunaskin - No.17. I offered to buy No. 17 in the mid 80's with a commitment to restore this famous industrial loco., I wish that I had followed thro' now just to keep it away from Dr D'eath!!

    Cheers,

    Alan

Thanks to all for suggestions re identification of the 0-6-0T; it seems that Andrew Barclay 1338 is the loco and I will presume that to be its ID.

Perhaps you can enlighten everyone with why you feel Mr Walton-Binns is not a suitable person to own the loco? As far as I can see he is paying (presumably a handsome amount) to have the loco professionally overhauled at Llangollen. What's the problem?

Fair question Keith, I can enlighten you - I don't see everyone seeking an explanation. Graham Binns has, shall we say, a fair bit of "form" when it comes his relationships with Preservation Societies over the years, I won't go into detail, you can find out for yourself if you are that interested, suffice to say you would see how he can afford a "handsome amount" for the restoration of No.17.

On second thoughts, I am glad to see that No. 17 is actually being restored after nearly 40 years of languishing in a siding, just a shame that the former owner has passed the loco onto you know who.

    Cheers,

    Alan

The final few jobs are now being carried out on 7822 Foxcote Manor, & the loco should be mechanically complete within the next week. I presume she will then go to the carriage works for painting . The tender is already painted.

A very busy weekend in the shed, so much so the mess room was standing room only on Saturday lunch time! Big turnouts for 6880/5199 group, progressing the grange, and piston and valve work on the 51. 7822 group progressing paintwork and brass work. Finally diesel group had a great turnout, managing to rebuild the majority of the top end of the class 47 power unit. So much progress we managed to fill the water system on the loco today.

As there doesn't seem to be a thread for the gala (or have I just missed it?), I thought I'd ask this on here. Is there any chance of freight rides for this gala (or any others coming up). I have always thought that this is definitely one of the best ways to see the line best, but with the exception of the SSS event last year, it doesn't seem to have been part of the galas since about 2012 (I could be wrong, but I do always try to come down to these events). I'm sure it will be a great event whatever, but it really would be nice to see this back!

Visiting Grosmont the other day I was told that 3814 was about to move to Llangollen for overhaul, and indeed on returning by train to Pickering I noticed that the tender was already at New Bridge awaiting a low loader.

A little update of what's happening at the moment as I haven't for a while!

80072, 5199 and 7822 are all taking turns operating services at Llan whilst 6430, Moorbarrow and Jennifer are out on hire at Cholsey, Gwilli and Epping.

5532 now has both tanks on the loco, built by Llan engineering and currently being painted by the owning group. All required now is the boiler to be done, though that won't be cheap (all donations most welcome).

Various work is happening with the 47xx, 68xx and Patriot, and is always well updated in their respective threads on here and the groups websites.

In the boilershop currently is 3802s boiler, receiving a new firebox back plate. 4160's boiler is in there too, also having some fairly major surgery.

Welsh Guardsman is looking like a loco again now, and should be back together fully in the next few weeks ready for testing.

Austin 1s boiler is also reaching the end of overhaul, with work concentrating on the bottom end now.

A new item in the shed is the frames from IOW railway SECR saloon 6375, ready for some serious rust work attention.

Work is progressing well with the class 47, with the roof section undergoing plate work renewal in the shed.

No 17 is progressing, with loco and boiler all looking fairly close now.

Any chance Welsh Guardsman or Austin will be operating at the gala? Would make an interesting addition!

We're waiting for new boiler tubes. Bottom half is finished. It won't make the Santa specials unfortunately.
The boiler from 'Sir Nigel Gresley' was craned off the lorry this morning in some very heavy rain.

Bottom half finished meaning it hasn't been touched since the boiler was lifted out. There is no planned work on the bottom end until a couple of years into the next ticket.
