Obviously got bored with historical accuracy after 48151, 46115 and 44932 ......
34027 did look handsome red though .....
Perhaps the Scot will get proper BR (M) red in due course.

That being the case, it could be argued that it's an authentic livery for 2017?

Is there a problem if WCRC decided to paint all its stock in a house livery? WCRC is a business, just like all the other TOC's, and it makes sense to identify their assets just like Virgin and all the other TOC's do.

Well, up to a point - if their business model is predicated in part on selling nostalgia, then having "nostalgic" (i.e. historically correct) liveries may be preferable to getting the WCRC brand identity out there. Virgin are essentially competing with other TOCs to make you use their service rather than some other TOC for a regular journey, whereas WCRC are trying to make you buy their product against not taking a trip full stop - it's a different marketing challenge. Though you might argue that the most important "livery" to get right would be inside the carriages, for example paying attention to historically accurate decor, moquette etc.

Nope and arguably it would be the professional thing to do. Highly commended if it demonstrates a clear policy and strategy, shows the business is being thoughtfully managed.

You might argue that the most important thing is to get the inside of the carriages 'correct', why is that? getting it 'right' is going to cost money, but will it attract more punters, I very much doubt it, all they want reasonable comfort, whatever style and era. Another example of WIBNI.

Virgin don't claim to be representing a bygone age though, yes you have to make comprises for Mainline running, but why in in the looks department when regulation doesn't demand it ?.

Very much agree. Crucial to repeat and word of mouth business.
I have travelled with many non enthusiasts and ambience is amongst the most important factors in them travelling again. In fact they choose premium diesel tours as well now.

Because regardless of the loco up front, the carriages are what people sit in all day - so it is what is going to make the biggest impression.

As for cost - you've got to periodically refurbish them, re-trim the seats etc. In which case, why do it with the wrong moquette when you can do it with the right moquette for the same price?
