I was told 3 or 4 years ago that the most common complaint received by Steam Dreams was about the state of the carriage interiors.

Some of the Mainline sets have been in rather ropey condition in recent years, if the set to Cardiff on Sunday was anything to go by, WCRC have upped their game a bit in this department, but some of the Riveira sets, particularly the Air Con set have been a laughing stock, threadbare seats with a sweaty outline of previous occupants, knackered loo's, aircon failing in the height of summer.

None of us know what the business model of WCRC is so we are all speculating but I suspect that it mainly involves the public day trip market and not the enthusiast market. You are right that carriage interiors are important; far more important then the coat of paint on the outside but no one under the age of 55 is really going to remember steam locos in BR livery and, once you get away from coach condition for Joe Public the most important thing is to have a steam loco at the front. It probably doesn't even matter if there is a diesel at the back, Joe Public will rarely look at that end of the train.
Much as I like BR livery because it reminds me of my misspent youth, I quite like the idea of a corporate livery (as long as it isn't a Mickey Mouse one!)

Sorry but a rebuilt MN can only be one colour, and thats Green, but they do look good in blue or even in Red, as long as it looks authentic, ie properly lined out, it will be interesting, its another might have been, had the class instead of being run down, had been transfered en mass to scotland after rebuilding, wasnt there a plan to transfer the class away from the SR at one point ? but its good news that she is back in steam and moving under her own power, will she do a test run before entering the paint shop?

I believe there was a plan to transfer the MNs to the London Midland Region at some point in the 60's. As regards a red MN I think that could work.

Are you sure it wasn't the other way round? - i.e., a plan to move the Duchesses to the Southern?

I think it's in my copy of 'Winston Churchill and the Bulleid Pacifics' which is on loan to my Dad so I can't confirm it. But I'm sure there was a plan to use the MNs on the LMR. I'm sure someone can confirm or tell me I've just got a vivid imagination!

Paint froth isn't it more important we have a class 8 for the mainline, then worry about rust protection ?

Haven't seen much, if any froth yet. Most people seem ok about the 'red' rumour.

Whatever one thinks of WCRC their ability to hide 100+ tons of locomotive moving around the yard is to be applauded!

Maybe we should ring the C.I.A.& see if any of their birds happens to pass over Carnforth.
