    I have no idea which would be cheaper. The non enthusiast public wouldn't know the finer points of Mk1/2 stock, some EMU's are of course Mk 1 based. Two different markets really. EMU fans and, the rest.

    I agree with the above. As an enthusiast I would only be interested in riding a 2nd generation EMU if it was under its own power, otherwise it is scarcely any different to a MkI. And the general public would not know the significance.

    Units like the 2-BIL are a different matter. They have a unique character from a different age. I'd still prefer it to be self-powered though.
