Since I'm dependant on public transport and dubious about once an hour bus services turning up, I don't often visit lines with no National rail access (at least close by, not necessarily cross platfrom).
However, this thread and the mention of the canal got me looking at maps and I can see that it's a pleasant-looking 8 mile walk mostly along the canal from Hinckley station so I think I'll give it a go in March.

I'm an occasional visitor and generally enjoy my visits. However, my last one back in 2015 was a disaster. I turned up (along with others, one who had brought her son as a birthday treat.) on a scheduled running day to find the station deserted and no sign of anything happening. Being a bit more nosey than most, I went looking for someone and eventually found a person at the shed. On enquiring, I was told that there was no driver so no train. That I could disappointingly have accepted but why was there no notice or no person to tell people of this fact? It went well down in my estimation on that day.
