Tickets are out. Trip runs via Shap both ways and steam off at Carnforth on the way back. Gauging issues at Whitehaven sited as reason for change, despite the same loco running through there some time last year.

Not the fault of RTC or WCRC but well over five hours from Manchester to Carlisle will make this rather a trundle with possible bursts of action between times.

RTC have said that they are currently in negotiation with Network Rail for Leander to come off at Preston rather than Carnforth on the way back.

You're a relatively new member, so a word of advice, do not question JS, as he knows exactly what he's talking about;).

I wonder what the loading is and whether it'll have diesel assistance from the rear for the climbs......

I think they should do the same possibly on the 28th if it is again 45690 on that train. The distance between Carnforth and Carlisle via Shap isn't very far.

1020 Shireman, the ticket letter states eight passenger carriages in total. I expect there will be a support carriage and a kitchen carriage as well, so won't that make ten carriages in total?

Realtime trains is now showing slightly amended timings for the tour on the return. Now scheduled to stop for 20 minutes at Preston and to arrive back at Manchester Victoria at 2007.

Also thanks guys for informing me about James Shuttleworth, I appreciate it.

I don't understand why 5690 can't haul the tour on the return all the way back to Manchester Victoria. Theres a move from Manchester Victoria at 2014 to Carnforth Steamtown which I presume will be the ECS of the carriages from the tour, why can't Leander either haul or be on the back of that as its going back to Carnforth anyway?

And thank you henrywinskill for expressing your concern.

It was at the loco owner's request. Had the train been going round the Coast, it would have come off at Carnforth, anyway; with the return via Shap, it was extended to Preston, to give more steam mileage. If you look at the difference in return arrival times, back at Carnforth, you realise why.
