Can you explain in which direction you would slew the track to make this lesser railway Manor-friendly? ;)

I have a range of suitable 'originals' to work from and will be producing some more over coming weeks as I travel around the Railway.

Yes, and probably more so. The broad gauge legacy gave the GWR a wide loading gauge.
6024 is having its cylinders slimmed down a bit to try to avoid taking bits out of station platforms.

Only the first Manor through Horsted platforms 1 and 2 would have a problem.

Should be all of them - although 9351's overhaul will probably not be finished until later in the year.

I was working on 9351 yesterday along with others. The axle boxes have now been completed all apart from a final measure, the springs are about to be ordered which will allow the already completed axles to be put underneath in the next few months.

It looks like not a lot is happening currently as no ‘big bits’ are being fitted but we are working on it every week now after other priorities last year. It’s at a stage where once we get the axles under it and the boiler comes back then the container full of already nicely painted bits can be put straight on and it becomes a reassembly job. The Tender had a lot of work completed last year in preparation as well so that’s nearly ready for a coat of paint to finish. Therefore all in all late this year is I would guess realistic, however that’s of course all down to volunteer help so please anybody who wants to be involved let us know, as I know a very nice and friendly 9351 Project Manager who would love to hear from you.

In the meantime here is a photo of it and a new 'slimline' King

Please note that Williton, Minehead and much of the rest of the Railway is a worksite at the moment and access is restricted. Photos taken with permission or from public areas.

As Prince Charles once said the extension of the old goods shed at Watchet truly is like a monstrous carbuncle on the face of an old friend. I would go further and say it is an act of civic vandalism. The Boat Museum is not actually a listed building but it is in a conservation area so the planners could, quite legitimately, have rejected the design. Had the extension been designed so that it looked like a period extension the visual effect would have been much better. The original plans show the exterior to be clad in wood but as built shiny plastic has been used. I can't tell if this is by accident or design but in any case it looks dreadful.

Going off topic but I wouldn't mind seeing the 1F back in action again, wasn't there some dispute with its ownership some time ago? Mods I appreciate this is in the wrong place no problems with it being moved.

Have you actually gauged it? The widest part of a 49xx/78xx or most other ex GW locos (except the 4 cyl ones) is well below platform edge level.
If you want a copy of the WR Civil Engs diagram for gauging a 78xx please pm me.

As an aside I well remember a trip about 10 years ago with 7802 + a class 37 where there was a speed restriction on the steam loco through Leominster station of 5mph IIRC. We got off the support coach & walked the platform watching for the tight spot. By far the tightest was the class 37's step & the steam loco was well clear throughout!

You obviously missed Tom's smiley in your rather serious reply. So, to stay serious, most platforms have ramps with the copers going to ground level. These are generally at the same distance from the rail as the platform tops and thus vulnerable, even if the majority of the platform isn't.
Anyhow, being out of gauge for GW locos does mean that your railway doesn't have to suffer having one.;)
