Even as an emergency stand in or for early morning ECS movements - would still have enough grunt for shunting duties
Whats an 08 do before its unhappy 15mph ?

Some 08s are 20mph machines, most are 15mph. Main advantage of an 09 is the speed, but to give the higher speed they have different wheel bearings I believe so you have non-standard components to maintain.

Depends on the size of your train and the gradient over which the ECS move is made. An 08 on 1:80 with 6 on manages 7.5mph. An 09 would be slower I think as a result of the gearing.

Even an 08 won't do much out on the running line. A steady plod up the hills.

And has now already arrived at Rolvenden. (Needs the vac system reinstating before it can work a fitted train though)

    Its the gearing that's different.

Clearly the gearing but I also remember someone mentioning the bearings. One of the advantages of an 09/0 (original build) over an 09/1 or 09/2 (08 conversion) apparently is that the latter are more prone to overheating wheel bearings as a result.
If I'm wrong then, well, sorry, it was second hand information but it sounds plausible.
Or maybe it was the rod bearings. Well, someone will know for sure!

08495 is at the NYMR and in the works at Grosmont. It made the trip from Pickering to Grosmont under its own power and has since received at set of good batteries from D5061, but is understood to need some tlc, which it is now getting.. It is expected to stayon the NYMR for about a year, covering for Grosmont's Class 11 lookalike 12139 whilst that is re-tyred and overhauled.

I believe that the "home" 08 will be the next to receive attention once 88 is running. There is fresh impetus regarding the diesel fleet. Even the Ford has been "shopped" for work to be done!

We tried to buy that a few years ago, for restoration, but the owners were not interested.

The owners still have the intention of restoring it themselves, SD.

Do you think they are underestimating the task? its been stored in a damp headshunt, covered with a tarp , exactly the same conditions that lead to the scrapping of 27007, traction motor, electrical components, wiring will all be in need of rebuilding, it really needs to go undercover to dry out before any assessment can be thought about, sorry but i think its only fit for scrap deisels are more complex than steam engines, and dont take being abandoned and covered up so well, from my time with you, you have a 33 that needed new cabs , the ford, that was always under repair, and an 08 that sits in bits in C&W that no one seems to be able to put together, and an 14 that seemed to bust liner seals every time i would say you have more than enough to be getting on with.

The locomotive can easily be put undercover as a 4 road carriage shed was opened last year at Rolvenden. However I did find a video of her last year at BR.tv and she looks really bad with big holes in her roof and possibly vandalism of parts. https://www.britishrailways.tv/trai...on-the-kent-east-sussex-railway-in-july-2016/ I must add that I believe the person was trespassing and most people that know the KESR would know where she is stored.

Thank you for your support, Martin, we'll wear it always....

The 03 and 14 are runners, and the 14 has just had a full service and repaint. 08888 is a runner, just needs the vac gear finishing. The second 08 has not been in the shed for quite some time, yet will not be a long job to get going once the team is free. The DMU is running well. The Ford has had some repairs, but as it is the oldest standard gauge diesel in the country, I think it is entitled to. The 33.... Rumours are afoot. However, the Ford and the 33 are separate groups to the main diesel group. Therefore, those engines are not in the group's queue before the 25.
