It is not a two year deal and she will based at North Norfolk Railway for the forcible future. She will last years of her boiler ticket then she will be overhaul at North Norfolk Railway and will continue to operate after that.

Well that is great news. Unique and interesting...and in the words of the fat controller 'a really useful locomotive'

Good to have another Eastern locomotive on the line. The N2 always seemed to make a lot of visits to the NNR in the past and I always wondered if one day the locomotive might make a more permanent move. I guess it also puts the Cromer services, and indeed the working home fleet, on a firmer footing for the forseeable future, even if 76084 does move away after 2017.

Handsome little tank engine too. Apart from those pipes on the side...

  4. Johnme101 I would tread very carefully with this one. Being a NNR volunteer myself I haven't seen or heard any official news from either the volunteer news letter or M&GN Joint line magazine with only the news coming from steam beano magzine or heritage railway magzine I'm taking it with a pintch of salt. I have done the same thing in the past, 'jumped the gun' as the saying goes.

Just had a thought... does this mean in 2017 the NNR will be the only place you can see operational standard gauge locomotives in GER, GNR and full LNER liveries?

I read it from Steam Railway magazine which the information come from the Gresley Society themselves and which their own the N2. So I pretty sure the information is 100% correct and she won't at the North Norfolk Railway until Easter. She is having the mainline equipment fit to her at Tyseley and it does say that her home base. Is change from the Great Central Railway to the North Norfolk Railway and the agreement has already be made. It does have a comment from the NNR managing director Hugh Harkett.

Great idea - why not paint over one of the most attractive liveries out there, carried on this operational loco only, and which matches the livery of the unique carriages perfect to run with it, and replace it with boring old BR black which every other loco in Britain is already carrying...

Actually LNER black is one of the liverys mooted.

An LNER Black N2 would be historically accurate to match with the Quads, wouldn't it? Not that it matters as the Quads look great with any of the Eastern types that have been on the NNR.

I've always thought the N2 and B12 sound awesome together climbing Kelling Bank at galas. What a great home stable! (Assuming the report is true). Such a good railway. I loved it when the home fleet consisted of the likes of John D Hammer, Harlaxton, Pony, Edmundsons, and Ring Haw (can't remember if they all worked) and the B12 and J15 sat in platform 2 at Sheringham...the change since then is amazing. Thanks for another C&W update Mr Moxon, The GER 6 wheeler is going to look interesting with, what looks like significantly more deeply recessed metal panels at the waistline than the other recessed timber ones. Like a go-faster swage line! If the N2 looks right on the quads, imagine that (it is also suburban isn't it) with the NRM Buckjumper on it

    Much more colourful :)
I have no objection to black liveries, most locos look great in black, and most were black for most of the time.
The N2, being a handsome design, looks good in both BR lined black (aka Crewe livery) - which suits almost all classes - and LNER black (the bold letters and numbers on the tank side suit tank engines).
It just seems a shame, when so many locos are in black - and so many can really only wear black - to lose the one operational GNR loco's original handsome livery...

A handsom looking loco, that will be welcome at the NNR by visitors and enthusiasts alike.

Are there still plans to mainline the B12 for Cromer services?
