For some time now, I've been trying to find out when the original GWR/Brunel buildings at Midgham were demolished, and replaced with the bus shelter, as well as the reason why – the latter I can only guess was simply because the numbers of passengers declined, and the drive towards unstaffed stations by British Rail in the 1980s and 1990s.

I've found a number of images of the station in books such as Vaughan's "Pictorial Record of GWR Architecture", and contacted Network Rail, the Railway Heritage Trust, and even the new GWR TOC.

Also tried local newspaper records, but not found anything that references this particular station, and according to a contact at GWR, the DfT might have records of change of use/access, etc.

If anyone has any suggestions that would be a great help.

Local History Society to the area may be worth looking for - this information is the sort of thing they frequently record. Possibly NRM/Science Museum photo collection also?

Thanks John - I've started looking into what may be held in Reading, but there is little in the West Berks archive, and nothing in the Science Museum collections so far.

I would have thought there would be something with Network Rail, or whoever gave approval, or hired the contractors. I think maybe Newbury Council would have some involvement, so maybe have a word with them.

There is a photo on Flickr taken at Midgham Station on 30th August 1975, looking east towards Aldermaston, and the caption states that the station buildings had already been demolished.
So it seems the buildings were demolished at some time between 1964 and 1975.

This is the link to the photo. https://www.flickr.com/photos/blue-pelican-railways/28704259946

Tried various local organisations, local papers, and even councils, but no records of when the demolition was carried out exist.
