    It's not really. It's essentially a 5-CIG with a 5-BEL body on top.

no it isn't ..it may have CIG bogies perhaps and control gear but the mainframe is still BEL and that's what determines the ID on the Railway

Sometimes you need to admit that a frame thats ran all over the West Highland and Aberdeen Inverness, can become the handle of grandads hammer, or in this case the NBL frame. Bit like Royal Scot's, nobody cares its 6126 or whatever, its been that so long its just part of the locos history now.

Photos show all of the frame around the Bogie castings is CIG so its a CIG with Pullman bodywork, or a 5PIG . None the worse for that but there's no need to pretend it is what it is not.

the trouble is lots of people do care. Many exMHR people arent too crazy about you butchering the remains of 27007. They remember restoring it and working on it and driving it on the MHR over a long period. I'd wager there are far more class 27 fans than there are class 21 (or is it 22 or 29?).

Reading, assuming you can, it has been neglected for decades, like many others around the country. Get over it, and save 45015 instead.

The Ivatt Diesel Recreation Society held a launch event for 'Project Icon' at Peak Rail in September. It was reported in the press but, strangely, not on their own website.

There are very few rules in preservation. Maybe there should be. But in general owners of locomotives and rolling stock are free to do whatever they like with them. Whether its just the choice of livery, or major surgery (e.g. Thomas conversions) or even scrapping, the general public have no choice in the matter.

I would be in favour of statutory protection for certain precious and unique artefacts, but 27007 wouldn't fall into that category. There are plenty of class 27s preserved, and it will be no great loss to the nation if 27007 were to disappear. Sad, perhaps but not the end of the world.

If its remains can be converted to a convincing Class 21 lookalike then at least some of us will be happy.

Thanks for that, @Miff. I really do hope that 10000 can be recreated: it was a travesty that it was lost in the first place  but as ever, it requires people to put money up rather than best wishes. :(

Apropos of the post by @D6332found, the most recent photo I could find of 45 015 suggests that "preserved" in this case meant "not cut yet." And I suspect the presence of a certain naturally-occurring mineral is responsible for much of it - but cut it should be.

I'd suggest with your charm that your project can only go one way.

which decades do you mean....? it was in service from 1992 to 2000 , so that's two decades gone. Prior to that it was being rebuilt after a fire and prior to that it was in service .

Reading, like it or not 27007 once the 33 's then the 37;s came to the line was effectivly abandoned, the 25 got sold on, as soon as the first 33, was running, as it stands 27007 is beyond repair, its scrap due to the amount of corrosion and that it was riddled with Asbestos, i can remember working on it myself , piston change wasnt it? i knew the group very well, and that rancid engine bay with newspapers stuffed into the underflooring , and wasnt it fire damaged? anyway, at least as part of a replica, it s got to be better than being cut up as thats the other option, 27's are well represented in preservation, there are no 21/22/29 class locos, so whilst its the end of 27007, that loco, if i can be honest died a long time ago it was allowed to get into that state because people who made the policy saw no reason for its repair and re use.

  12. 5PIG sums up the reality of Frankenbelle in a nutshell for me. Or should that be written as $PI£, given how much tickets are likely to cost...?

As the spokesman for a new project, this chap has an unfortunate way of replying to people.

So I am, but it doesn't stop me from responding professionally to people, even if they try to wind me up. If there is some "history" with your other preservation projects, when people may have been upset, then this needs to be dealt with calmly and factually, not by blazing back at them from your keyboard. Taking advice from others might also help, which I don't see from your last response.

... and editing your latest post to say something completely different? Hmm. Doesn't give a great impression either. Hope your engine gets wheels sometime, but "I'm out".

  18. D6332found (and whatever his other identity on here is/was) does seem to have a bit of a problem with recognising one of the most basic rules of PR... if you want to get people on board with a project / idea / company then you need to kiss everyone's arse, no matter how much they irritate you.

Being abrasive to anyone will only guarantee that they - and all those who witness that abrasiveness - will say 'bo11ocks'.

Another very basic rule of PR... it takes years to build a good reputation, but minutes to lose one. Just ask Gerald Ratner...
