West Somerset Railway General Discussion

Dieses Thema im Forum 'Heritage Railways & Centres in the UK' wurde von gwr4090 gestartet, 15 November 2007.

And the majority of them have probably hauled QB vehicles at some point, largely as a result of our gala workings. I wish we had a record of them all.

I would be very interested to see a list of operational ex-BR steam locomotives that have yet to grace WSR metals. Anyone up for compiling one?

There is this list which is fairly good http://www.wsr.org.uk/r-locos.htm but some of the industrial's are missing.

The answer to Barrie's question is to cross reference the latter list with here: http://www.onlineweb.com/rail/locomotive_listing.htm (I wouldn't guarantee the accuracy of the latter, but it looks broadly right at least for the ex-mainline locos I'm familiar with; it is missing most industrials).

Rather than specific locos, a starting point would be to think of whole classes that haven't visited the WSR but which might be suitable for the combination of load, distance and gradient. A very obvious "missing" type is a Urie / Maunsell S15, which has never visited, but which were regular performers in Somerset - albeit the south rather than the west of the county - for 30 or so years.

Following moderator review, several posts have been removed and appropriate action taken where required. This thread has been unlocked for discussion of WSR operations.

Please note that discussions surrounding the ramblings posted on the WSR history site do not form part of this and the moderators politely ask that discussion of this subject is avoided in this thread. Lets keep it to operational news.

  5. Always happy to receive corrections and updates on this admittedly poorly researched list.

Shame - I was looking forward to the same fun as on the old WSRA thread, which was required reading over breakfast every morning.

I agree with the moderators regarding the deleted. However I cannot support the way the moderators do not deal with the abusive postings.

Michael....whilst I agree everyone has a right to an opinion I had got tired of the same old same old.
The MODs, yet again in my opinion, should have locked the thread years ago and insisted that all the SH1T(from both sides) should have been banned.
The WSR is a good railway but I personally had got fed up with it because of the long running saga.
There are other railways out there that are doing good things but they have, in my opinion, been kept in the shadows because of the WSR spat.

You can always switch "channels" and play spot the updates. Shame to waste the Popcorn

Meanwhile the WSRplc are having a stakeholder (vegetarians welcome) on the 25th February that will include an update on the forthcoming FS visit and Taunton/BL link update.

    All WSR stakeholders invited

And coffee time is just not the same either... I only have time for two or three choccie biscuits now instead of the usual half a packet
Still I agree with what's been done, let's concentrate on the railway and, hopefully, all those annoying irritations will simply fade away when no one bothers to look at them any more. I know the WSRA still has ongoing issues with the believed 'authors' but I'm sure their new management can deal with them without 'help' from here.

It would be very Very nice if the King's visit was during the Spring Gala as I'd like to ride behind it on the WSR and my opportunities to visit the railway are limited by a shortage of annual leave and domestic commitments at home.
