Are we talking narrow as opposed to 7ft 0-1/4in standard?

Lots of railways can do GWR loco and train. Dozens and dozens of locos can wear GWR or WR livery. Only one railway and only 3 locos can do lined BR corporate blue. So having one of them in this livery would be highly appropriate, educational and fun!

Personally I would like to see a set of carriages in Maroon or as has been suggested on another forum carmine and cream would also look good. As for a locomotives why not BR green?

The VoR coaches never ran in maroon. In BR days, they were carmine and cream, then chocolate and cream, then dark green, then corporate blue.

Indeed, over the years the current stock has carried a variety of liveries over the years. Currently the railway presents the carriage stock in a 1920s / 30s appearance with one rake carrying the GWR garter crest and the others carry GWR shirt button. The 4 wheeled brake van has recently been repainted into an all over brown livery as it would have been. All carriages have been through the paint shop in the last 3 years. All now carry their original GWR numbers.

As for livery changes, in the world of steam railways you never say never- however the current policy is for the colour schemes of 1920s and 30s to be displayed and this is likely to remain so for a while as the paint is still new. As you can imagine, hours and hours of work goes into repainting and sign-writing the stock and the railway has invested heavily in recent years to ensure the carriages are looking the smartest they have for decades!

The Vale of Rheidol Railway is holding a workshop open weekend next weekend 24th and 25th September.

We will be opening the doors to our workshop buildings in Aberystwyth giving visitors the rare opportunity to see behind the scenes in a building not normally accessible to the public.

Our engineers and apprentices will be on hand to show the progress on a variety of restoration projects including the restoration of our iconic locomotive No 7 - Owain Glyndwr which has been assisted by funding from the Coastal Communities Fund.

In the workshops a number of local model railway layouts will be in attendance as well as book stalls.

The orange timetable will be in operation with round trips from Aberystwyth to Devil's Bridge departing at 1030 and 1400 and Quarry Hunslet "Margaret" will be in steam offering footplate rides and "Driver for a Fiver" on our demonstration line at Aberystwyth.

    Normal fares apply.

    Evening All,

Although the Festival of Steam weekend was some 15 months ago, I have only just got round to uploading a further batch of pictures onto Flickr. Not exactly hot news I know, but if anyone would like to have a look, this is the first one in the Photostream :

    Hope they're still of interest.

Does anyone know what the Actual paint colour is being used for the GWR green on the VOR locos? is it Mid Brunswick Green BS381 226?
I also know the fact that the colours in GWR days were hand mixed and varied but I'm interested in todays colour.
    Thanks in advance.

It is a common misconception (perpetuated by 'Steam Beano' etc) that GWR and B.R. locos were painted "Brunswick Green" - they never were. The correct colour is Mid Chrome Green which has a lot less`blue in it. Land Rover Deep Bronze Green is the closest 'everyday' colour but Williamson's of Ripon and Craftmaster both do the 'proper' shade (other paint suppliers are available!). Sorry but I haven't a clue what the VoR used but it looks good.
    Cheers,
    Ray.

Thanks Ray, Yes less blue is what I'm after, the range of heat proof paints I'm going to use has a Middle Bronze Green as well [ this may be the same as your mid chrome green] Yes they do look good.
