It did occur to me, but then the blurb on the website also mentioned the Crab is also due to take part and surely that's not going to be repainted in BR black? It hardly seems any time since it appeared in LMS red. Anyway, a L&YR engine in whatever livery is more appropriate for a "Lostock Hall" themed gala that a Bulleid light pacific - I can't recall too many of that class being shedded at 24C/10D !

As the one who pays the bills for 1300/12322/52322 and consequently has the only valid say over paint schemes, I'm somewhat bemused by all the recent froth over its livery change, the loco was in lyr livery for the period 1996 to 2013 and lms livery from 2014 until Feb 2017 and quite frankly nobody showed any real interest in the engine. A quick livery change done for no other reason than a whim and suddenly it becomes interesting.... The irony of all this is the livery change should have been to br maroon but there was a communication error without the painters!
At the end of the day all that matters is the engine remains in good working order with its future well provided for.

I only post I have made on this thread is to say it has been nice to see it in all it's possible liveries over the years. I've also been bemused about the comments on the current finish, it's ex works BR, they were all like that after a heavy general. The only thing to say now is thank you for paying the bills.

Hope you stick with BR blue for the class 8 and are not deterred by the livery experts around here......

For which we are all very grateful. I may make presumptuous comments about the paintwork, but only because I have a passion for the loco, and everything else Horwich and Aspinall related. As and when you fancy another stint in LYR livery, happy to contribute a few quid! In the meantime, she's still a fantastic loco. Good old Sir John.

All this careful consideration about correct livery coaches with which livery loco. .... Then Joe Public spoils the whole period effect by turning up pretending to be a passenger dressed in trainers, jeans and hoodie. :)

What happened to the bobble hat; duffle bag and (mandatory) Jubbly or - if not available - a Lyons Fruit Pie and bottle of fizzy pop ?

Not just any old fizzy pop I think it was always Tizer and the blazer always had about half a dozen pens in the top outside pocket and notebook in the side pocket. Perhaps they should have a replica wax dummy gricer in the NRM

I think it's wonderful that it has carried all entirely appropriate liveries during its tickets. Many thanks from myself for making sure it is in historically accurate liveries too - I rather think she looks splendid in all of those liveries.

Some of us still treat travelling by steam train as an event :)

I'll second this. Not enough engines in pre-grouping and grouping liveries. Happy to chuck a few quid the way of anyone who wants to put their B1 in LNER livery or their A4 in garter blue...and a few quid for L&YR livery again. Yes definitely.

I'm restoring a classic bus, and I've already had people telling me that as it's the only one eligible to carry a certain livery, it should be restored in that livery.
As the owner, I'll paint it whatever colour I want - I didn't see queues of other people stepping in to buy it when I did. If they want to part with a substantial amount of money when it's finished and back in one piece, they can paint it whatever colour they like... The livery it will appear in is perfectly correct for the vehicle, by the way.

    Richard.

Hear Hear! I have a friend who owns a pair of ex BR diesels and just after one of them had been repainted I made the mistake of saying something like 'looks nice but I'd love to see it in Railfreight Red Stripe' my friends reply was along the lines of 'I've just spent x amount getting it up and running another x thousand on the paint job I like, if you want it in that colour scheme how's about you open your wallet and pay for it!' I've since learned to keep my mouth shut! I've since found my friend usually comes out with something similar to those who come out with 'why not paint them black, blue, orange, purple with pink spots etc and it usually tends to shut them up too! We're spoilt rotten in this country with such a variety of Loco's steam or diesel and some decent stock, sometimes instead of moaning 'it's the wrong colour' shouldn't we say 2 little words to those who put their hands in their pockets so we can enjoy what have? Those 2 little words are 'Thank You'
