Galatea passing through Winsford this morning 35 minutes early with a cheery wave, the gloved hand I recognise as Mick Kelly....

That was last Thursday though, came past on Monday afternoon and both Galatea and Leander were visible, although could not tell if either were in steam.

Edit - Possibly Galatea was as per the photo above!

Probably followed by a loaded test run and then return to Keighley ? (Speculation at this stage !)

I believe the test run is for both 45212 + 45407 in tandem.

Do you know if the tandem thing is to test out 45212 at up to 60 mph before it does the circuit on it's own later to get it's Mainline Ticket Fred?

Something is on the move on the Carnforth, Hellifield Loop Slot? http://www.realtimetrains.co.uk/train/P90398/2017/03/03/advanced

Must have been fairly quick through as I came through Carnforth at 1040ish and there was no apparent movement in terms of stock being extracted etc?

As we know, Ian Riley prefers early crest for his duo but I believe when the deal with the KWVR over 45212 was being discussed, they said that they wished to keep the late crest. I think it also has a 10D shedplate whereas 44871 & 45407 have 26D. I'm open to correction here, but believe that the KWVR's wish is for 45212 to reflect the condition it was in when it performed one of the final duties for steam at Preston on 4th August 1968.....
...and over 48 years later, it sounds great. Thanks for posting. Great to think that another Black Five will be gracing our main lines again.

does anyone know the reason for the lost time on the engine and coach move? that the engine was fit to run its loaded test later the same day must indicate what ever the problem, it must have been fixed , or was it an operational problem, at Preston that meant it lost it's path ?

I assumed it must be something like that.

45212 was held at Whalley waiting for the late running Man Vic to clear Daisyfield Jn. Looking and sounding great on a wet dismal afternoon as she powered through Ramsgreave & Wilpshire 8L. This was to have been our 2 year old grandson's introduction to mainline steam but he fell asleep and stayed in the car with Mrs W.
