Here is an update on Nancy , Gathered over €10.000 so far another €3.000 to go to make £10.000 sterling by the end of April.
The Boiler will be Moved From Israel Newton to Ross on Wye by the end of the Month, so if you want to see Nancy back in steam dig deep.

I wonder if the extended "name" will be replicated when the loco is finished.............;)

Anyway, absolutely delighted that Nancy will be restored after all this time. Just one thing, I would like to make a contribution but I don't do Facetube, is there any other way to subscribe?

    Cheers,

    Alan

Looking at the above photo and the ones on that link is there any reason that the rear of the cab has been changed away from what I presume to be the original style?

    Hello Michael,

I made a paypal contribution via the web-site this morning, delighted to donate something towards the renovation of "Nancy". It will be terrific to see a former Ironstone 3'-0 guage loco working at long last. All the best with the rest of the restoration.

    Cheers,

    Alan

My comment regarding the name " Nancy Boyler" was made with my tongue firmly in my cheek; it was a reminder of the Phantom Chalker at Haworth many years ago who surreptitiously "named" several locos with chalk, my favourites were "Cleckheaton Castle" & "Dame Vera Duckworth" scrawled onto the footplate of an Ivatt 2MT mogul.

As for Nancy, it's good to see that her name follows in the C & L naming tradition.

    Cheers,

    Alan

Yes but that doesn't answer the question of why? The archive photos show the rear cab sheet outside of the bunker; not entirely clear if it was an original fitment or not but it's quite a different look. Why change it?

Not a criticism, by the way, just curious.

Nancy was delivered to Brewer's Grave in 1908 with an open backed cab, but, according to Eric Tonks, she operated with a removable cab back, which we can see in the picture above, for most of her working life, why the cab extension covered the bunker can probably be explained by local preference when it was fitted. It's fairly obvious that the rebuild being undertaken now is seeking to emulate the more convential approach to cab/bunker layout, most certainly a back to the cab is required and the arrangement made will be easier from an operating point of view. Still can't wait to see Nancy working......

    Cheers,

    Alan

Your Right , it would not be feasible to run her with an open cab in Leitrim where it rains over half of the year ,
So here is the Comparison Nancy.jpg

Absolutely wonderful photos of "Nancy" Michael, I have never seen these before.; the posed one with the driver, fireman and roperunner is a delight and probably taken when the loco was not that old - just look at that polished dome!!

    Cheers,

    Alan

Rains for half the year and pours the rest of the time.....it looks fine with the back sheet inboard of the bunker and far more practical for coaling.

Nancy is the perfect size, not too small but not so big as to be overly expensive to run and maintain.

Ah, i think I'd have kept the original look and provided the driver with a sturdy coat. But I don't have to drive the thing! Makes sense I suppose. It's a nice looking engine anyway. I will have to visit the C&L again one day, very friendly setup.
