I reckon it was certainly louder than 45407 having been on the bridge at the top both times. (Video to come) Could hear it working away for 6 minutes or so afterwards through Warminster!

My footage of Galatea in stunning form. Filmed at Worting Junction, Bapton, Winterbourne and Charfield. Enjoy.

There could be problems ahead as there are reports on Twitter that someone has been hit by a train between Basingstoke and Woking.
Edit: Latest update says all lines are blocked. Will the charter terminate at Basingstoke?

Excellent stuff. Upton S sounded good on train - even better from outside. Thanks for going out on an 'orrible night and for posting it so quickly.

Or will they try and divert to Reading, put passengers on services trains and then back to Southall.

Sounds like the only option at the moment as SWT report that a lot of rail replacement buses are currently on their way to Woking. Otherwise they could be in for a long wait at Basingstoke.

We will apparently proceed via Woking, but not yet. Diversion via Reading not possible.

This is what it says on the SWT website:
Due to emergency services dealing with an incident between Woking and Basingstoke some lines are blocked.

    Impact
Train services running through these stations may be cancelled, delayed by up to 60 minutes or revised. Disruption is expected until the end of the day.

    Customer Advice
A person has been hit by a train between Basingstoke and Woking and some lines are blocked. The line heading Basingstoke bound from Waterloo via Hook has been reopened, however. Emergency services and our response staff are en route to attend to this incident.

Trains will be diverted between Woking and Southampton via Havant where possible. Our tickets are being accepted on GWR services between Reading, Basingstoke and Dorking Deepdene, and between Paddington and Exeter. London Underground are accepting our tickets between Waterloo and Paddington. Cross Country are accepting our tickets from Reading to Bournemouth.

We have arranged replacement bus transport, which is expected to arrive at Woking for 21:45. In the mean time, anyone having trouble finding an alternate route should use a help point on a station for further assistance.

We are sorry for any delay to your journey this evening.

It was certainly cold even with two coats on! ...but well it. Fabulous sound up the Avon valley. 26 over scudamore seemed more at the time, great climb.

Just got home at a ridiculous time. Due to continual stops and slow running to let others pass after the incident ahead, it all ended in an unfortunate way at Woking when it was realised that Galatea didn't have enough water to get to Hounslow & Staines and so we were told it needed to go straight to Clapham junction instead. Everyone decamped and because there were now no trains everyone had to get taxi's home. It had been a great day up until it all started to go wrong just before Basingstoke. My thoughts are with the person concerned.

It sounds like a management nightmare but it's good to hear that people were looked after as much as was possible. But you do have to say that in a situation such as this where one of the services - i.e. the charter - would be water critical, that Network Rail didn't advance the train as quickly as possible rather than holding it up for everything else to pass. But I guess that with nothing seeming to leave Basingstoke towards London until about 11 pm, there was little else that could be done.
