The tickets bought on-line in advance are valid on the trains - no exchanging for Edmondsons.

If you show up on the day you'll get an Edmondson ticket from the ticket office. The only ones which should have been over-printed with 'WSRA' are the members' discount tickets, since the WSRA do not sell tickets or collect fares.

Mike, don't tell anybody but if I am on duty and you only have a paper self generated ticket I'll give you a pink Edmundson child under five ticket! :)

Thanks for helpful information. I've just bought a day rover for the Thursday of the Spring Steam Gala, and it was electronic, so I'll print it off and not need to queue up at the booking office - great!

Have it on good authority that the removal of LSPS , Is nothing to do with safety incidents, more to do with it not being policed correctly and GWR planning to run Service Trains Cardiff to Minehead, They don't want people lineside when their trains are on the branch, Bus company's gonna be really happy when they hear the railway wants to take business off of them, Guess GWR can make the WSR more money then the LSP holders,

I suspect that your "good authority" is either intentionally misleading you or does not know what they are talking about, the two subjects are not only totally unrelated but it is highly unlikely that GWR will be running regular trains past BL for the next few years at least.

The local buses and GWR are both part of the same company - First Group.

I believe Chris White sadly passed away last year. I have good memories of Chris from my Talyllyn days. A great guy with a good sense of humour.

I am reliably informed that 7,500 FS tickets have so far been sold.

See that's the problem with the likes of you on here, you would follow management off a cliff if they asked you to,
I'm sure if we can't get a proper answer through the channels ourselves, I'm sure the magazines and media that have been tipped off won't give in as easily.
Not the sort of publicity the railway wants is it ? Most of the talk around Swanage over the weekend was of WSR and I quote "selling people up the river"
Make of that what yu will.

This is arrant nonsense. Lots of people on here, myself included, will speak up against the WSR if they feel it is justified. On the subject of LSP's to suggest the WSR management have behaved wrongly is simply untrue. A serious reality check is needed. Perhaps this should be part of the qualification to hold an LSP:D

OK, so you reckon that the Lineside Permits are such a vital issue to you that you are going 'tip off the press and media' (remember to explain what a Lineside Permit is and why it matters so much to you, in case they haven't a clue what you are talking about if not specialist media) and that the Railway that you claim to want to support by having a LSP won't like the publicly that results?

Talk about trying to harm the thing you reckon you love!

I really do think some of the posters on this subject need to stop and have a long, hard look at how they are coming across - and how unpredictable involving the media can be. How will you feel if the story comes across as responsible WSR management being forced to protect a rather extreme minority of 'train spotters' from themselves?

Perhaps you might also explain why not allowing LSPs is 'selling people up the river' - considerable warning has been given, indeed, one could argue that if an incident occurs this year, WSRplc have exposed themselves to risks by not banning LSLs straight away due to the issues giving rise to the decision. Instead, they are giving advance warning, actually allowing any poor behaviour to cease and are seeking advice from the HRA. To me, 'selling people up the river' means promising one thing and unexpectedly delivering something else, which this isn't.

Oh, and you obviously haven't followed the West Somerset Railway threads on here if you can accuse @Robin White of 'following Management off a cliff' - Robin is not only a very experienced Railway Operator herself but also has shown herself to totally be her own person and be tenacious and articulate in arguing for her views. I would suggest you owe her (and others and probably WSRplc management) an apology. You might also try engaging with Management to see if LSP holders can assist in coming to a mutually acceptable solution rather than than just having a tantrum on here!

At the beginning, middle and end of the day it is the WSR PLC's job to manage the railway in whatever way they see fit to meet the ends of safe operation and continued existence of the line. A Lineside permit is a privilege, never a right, so if they have decided to remove that privilege, then that just has to be accepted.
The WSR (where I have not renewed my permit), like the SVR (where I have just renewed my 3 year permit because, for the time being at least, it is still available), is blessed with many great locations for photographing trains from outside the fence, so removal of lineside access should not be the issue that many have made it out to be. The fact that I no longer hold a lineside permit for the WSR has not stopped me visiting the line and getting some great images, and I hope to continue doing so for many years to come. The fact that I now have to put a bit more planning and effort into finding different locations on all the lines that I visit regularly in many ways adds interest to my excursions.
