If the tanks were built identical to the drawings supplied, the builder has not done anything wrong, and if the drawings were signed of as been correct the people who did the drawings have not done anything wrong, as if they had missed out the cut out for the "reach rod assembly" (or not told about it) which sounds this was missed out for the cab cut out as well, it becomes the fault of the team and not the people who did the drawings.

We live in a blame culture. An old fashioned oversight is not permissible, somebody has to be to blame! What's more, they should resign at once together with anyone who may ever have worked on the project, ever!

I read in the latest Lynformation that there has been another delay due to some build/assembly issues

The way I read their news pages the reach rod was re-designed after the tanks had been ordered

It happened, it's been resolved. The 762 Club Team are not looking to find fault, merely to learn a lesson for the next loco they build...

Given that I assume the design work is done by volunteers its a minor miracle its all happened at all. While the design issues are unwelcome they can hardly be described as major

I understand some other narrow gauge railway has locos where the design was so faulty they stuck the front on both ends!!

Latest update now out http://762club.com/762lynformation49.php with better news that the extra time needed to do the corrections has gone down from 6 weeks down to about 2 to 3 weeks as they are hoping to have it complete by late May to early June.

Most of the main problems reported last time have been sorted out, with a lot less work needed to sort out the problems due to slight design work and the only problem this time is the firebox cladding needs redoing due to the holes for the washout plugs in the wrong place.

That was quick, Felix - it was only published about an hour earlier! :) Only a few weeks now until we are ready to steam... :D

I do hope I can get to the members' steaming, but it just might be in the middle of the move from deepest Sweden to the Emerald Isle.... :)

All in all, a very creditable performance. For a project originated in 2008, without any established workshop resources, to get it completed within nine years is pretty good going. Yes, there have been a few 'completion' dates but when you consider the FR, with all their financial, logistical and manpower resources planned Lyd to be complete within seven years, it shows how well the humble L&B have done.
Any idea on the total cost?

    A quick guesstimate:
350 memberships at 1k each after gift aid, plus 105k in sponsored items. After work and items donated for free or at cost, not much change out of half a mill, I'd say.

Now for the interesting bit. How will superheated "Lyn" compare with superheated "Lyd"? I have always thought the Baldwin design looked better proportioned than the Manning one. We will soon find out if she is mechanically better or not.

One advantage Lyn has is the American smokebox - the original was one of the first locos to have it in this country and it became an industry standard after the GW, SR and LMS embraced it.
Superheating might not address the original's faults - no-one ever suggested the original couldn't steam or was under-powered, keeping its feet on a wet day might be 'interesting' but it will be interesting to see how it performs on the WHR.
Any chance of a 2018 loco exchanges with Lyd, Lyn, Russell and Taliesin?
Perhaps a Rheidol tank or two??!
