Lots of preserved lines are close together but not all share the same market. I suspect the SVR will have more of an enthusiast following whereas TSR is more family orientated. Embsay and KWVR are close but both succeed! :)

And perhaps the pull of the SVR might be advantageous - people come to visit the SVR then stop of at the TSR on the way home perhaps?

It's probably a bit late to start questioning the wisdom of the proximity of TSR to the Severn Valley - TSR opened in 1984...

With the SVR already 16 miles long, I can't see they would have any appetite to push further north. Leaving aside the access problems through Bridgnorth tunnel and beyond, there is the small matter of Jackfield's tendency to fall into the river which would make Folly Point and Sterns seem like child's play.

Keep up the good work at Telford - I had my first visit there last year and look forward to a bit more mileage next time!

More likely a visit to the Ironbridge Gorge Museums and a stop off at the TSR.

Thanks for the support from everyone. The plan to extend to 'Ironbridge' is not the village itself but the greater area known as 'Ironbridge'. This means the whole of the world heritage site. Trains will stop at Coalbrookdale and eventually a rebuilt station at Buildwas and there will also be a station at Lightmoor. But Buildwas depends on one small thing......the closure then demolition of Ironbridge power station. Even if the power station closed this year it would still take a hell of a long time for it to be demolished clearing the way for us to rebuild Buildwas and to build the associated yard and sidings.

Anyway, please keep enjoying the updates and we will try to keep you informed as soon as possible. In the meantime, as alway and like every worthwhile heritage cause, please support us by either paying us a visit, becoming a member or making a donation via our website. Cheers :)

Back to the near future is there a plan for a run round loop on the new extension at a later date, or will the line be run the push pull way.

The track is in place for the loop already it just needs the turnout installation finishing. There's no real hurry to get this done just yet until we get south to Doseley at the earliest. Unless we do win the Euromillions that is.

A few shots of tonights work at Lawley consisting of some finishing work to the platform itself. The 108 sat waiting to enter the platform to return the gang home and one of the t'other platform site are two good shots :D

    Hello everyone,

A very long and overdue update. Apologies for not keeping people up to speed but like so many heritage railways we've been very busy. Services to Lawley have settled down well with our passenger numbers more than doubled for the season so far. Our Peckett 'Rocket' has found its stride and there is news on the horizon of work possibly commencing on our other Peckett 'Ironbridge No3'. This would be a major boost for us if we could have two serviceable steam locos. All our diesel are in fine fettle with only our North British 'Tom' out of service. It won't be long before this is back in the fold. Our cafe has undergone an amazing transformation in that we now offer an extensive hot menu and eating facility compared to the tea and cake only days of only last year. A big thank you must go to the manager and the staff who have overseen the change. We have 7 more running dates for this season and are hoping to end with a flourish. The August bank holiday weekend will see us staging our very first 1940s event on the Sun 30th. It has been a mammoth task organising the event btu we are quietly confident that it will be a big success and will bode well for the future. please come along if you find yourself in the area and at a loose end as to what to do. We also have plans to run at Halloween in another first for us as we usually close at the end of Sept until Christmas. We have many important projects on the go all at once and are looking at different ways of raising revenue without resorting to the usual 'Give us your donation' method :)

Our website has expanded as has our social media presence so please check them out to stay current with all that's going on in Telford,

    Best regards,

    Mark

    Evening.

I travelled on the railway today to show support after the sickening vandalism that occurred last week. Unfortunately the damage to locos and rolling stock was plain to see. IMG_1801.JPG A much happier sight was "Rocket" waiting at Spring Village to take her train
IMG_1805.JPG to Lawley Village (any information about the crane would be welcome). IMG_1795.JPG Then back down the line to Horsehay and Dawley Station. The new building here is based on Burwarton Halt on the Cleobury Mortimer and Ditton Priors Railway. IMG_1797.JPG Back at Spring Village was Andrew Barclay fireless number 1944 IMG_1789.JPG together with ex GWR auto coach W38W, which I can remember traveling in on the preserved railway as a child. The proposed carriage shed cannot be build quickly enough for it to be placed under cover. IMG_1790.JPG A great couple of hours spent at a railway which feels like it is starting to go places (no pun intended!). Everyone was really friendly and it was great to see the place busy with lots of families enjoying themselves. IMG_1798.JPG Happy Easter everyone

The condition of W38W is as bad as the vandalism.

I'd also like to add that the two TSO's from Tyseley were also damaged in the attack.

Feel free to come along and help with its restoration. Or you could just stay on here slating the railway from a distance.
