No one spotted this yet then?

Looks to be the last chance to visit what remains of OOC before Cross Rail re-develop the rest of the site.

All profits will go to the depot’s chosen charity Place2Be, which provides mental health support for children in schools and whose patron is HRH The Duchess of Cambridge.

Does anything from the real Great Western actually remain there now following the demise of the factory building and last turntable?

Real Great Western? As opposed to the provisional, or continuity Great Western?

    Possibly not

Just for clarification, 'the factory' and the turntables were in the EWS section of the site - which has long been demolished and replaced by a construction supply depot for the Crossrail tunnels and which is now being turned into an EMU depot.

The open day is being held at Old Oak HST depot - which is still in full use looking after the FGW fleet of High Speed Trains. This depot (and the adjacent HEX depot) will be demolished to make way for the future HS2 Old Oak station - but as physical work has yet to start on that, and the ex Eurostar depot that will look after the IEPs cannot maintain the HST fleet, Old Oak still has a couple of years or so left to go before the demolition contractors roll in.

List of exhibits & attractions http://oocopenday.com/exhibits.html

Visiting locos and trains have not being announced yet, but I'm guessing the roll screen next to the category are probably where some of the locos and trains are coming from.

From a passing HST, it looks as though the red Warship is still there… I'd imagine that would be a realistic addition to the (otherwise very dull) loco line-up, no?

The Red Warship is D821 Greyhound, it's currently under going overhaul at OOC by its owners The Diesel Traction Group.

Hadn't seen it for a while (and can never remember which is which), but spotted it was poking its nose out as we sped past earlier today, and was reminded of this thread.

I thought I read somewhere that 6023 and the Steam Railcar would be working.

Old Oak Common brings back memories!

I used to live in Cecil Road, Harlesden in the mid fifties as a child. My friend and I used to walk South down the rail line (Dodding Hill Line?), over the main line and down to the Southern banks of the Grand Union Canal.

We then used to walk along the canal towpath to Old Oak, through the fence and into one of the roundhouses to stand in wonder looking at the mighty engines inside. I remember looking at the first diesel loco in the roundhouse in the late fifties (Deltic?) still don't like the things now on steam specials, but accept the operational decisions!!.

We often played railwaymen with the lamps and stuff in the air-raid shelter by the fence which had a door and an escape hatch tunnel we could get in by. Journey back was via canal and rail bridge again.

We were never challenged as far as I can remember and never did any damage, just boyish fun!

Imagine trying to do that today!!
