Going to be a bit of a gamble joining train. If 47 stays on rear it will be a waste of time. Wonder if WCR will send a 47 to Farington for the return?

Yes, that's what I recall as well. Has it run since then?

Assuming the charter can be slotted in with other stuff, there may just be time at Carlisle for a breather before returning down the S&C in path. I assume that the Scot will make its own way to Carlisle in the path that the charter would have otherwise used. So hopefully it will be a steam return.

Sometimes cutting losses is a wise decision, particularly from an image perspective. Desperate on the hoof solutions aimed at securing the customers money never end well.

Latest I've heard is, the Scot is still going to come on at Carnforth, it's not going in to Carlisle, but it will take the Upperby curve and head down the S&C to Appleby. There will a stop there to take water (and to give the punters a leg stretch etc).

It will then take up (more or else) it's same return path south to make sure it gets in to London in time.

    Hope this helps.

That's probably the best solution all round - and it does give some slightly rare track for those who like that sort of thing - the Upperby curve.

Yes, Perhaps with the increasing miles of overheads now it makes a stronger case for WCRC to have a couple of sparkies in house.

That is a clever and creative solution. Good for WCRC in sorting out that option. It makes for a marathon on-train day but it does do what was planned.

Confirmed on train this is exactly what is happening. Diesel has departed for Farington so we are unassisted.

RTT or its feeds will generally assume any standing time in schedules will be recovered, regardless of wether there is an operating reason - I believe it is possible for schedules to be loaded so they don't ,
    but they rarely are.

That is a particularly brilliant piece of on-the-day tweaking by WCRC and NR. On the basis that 'catching them being good' is far better than complaining when the opposite happens I really think that there should be gold stars all round on this one.

And those who baled out at MK may yet find they made the wrong decision. Unassisted steam over Shap and Ais Gill is not something to be sniffed at IMO.

Although the northbound run may involve the train being looped at Grayrigg I am guessing. Nevertheless it is a run over two legendary routes and it's pure steam as you say.
