Looks like these are the times for Tornado's run over the S&C and the Tyne Valley.

Water at Long Preston, not Hellifield and no Appleby stop, guessing that's just down to it being a DB job and 60163 being able to do the distance.

Does anyone know what stock will be used for this tour?

Riviera Mk 1's I'm guessing, by virtue of the fact that there is a train arriving from Eastleigh (where their stabled) around 20 mins before the tour departs Leicester.

Wouldn't a water stop at Hellifield involve use of WCRC territory that would be unlikely to be approved?

I seem to remember Long Preston was a regular water stop (with a road tanker on the overbridge) in the 80's and 90's?

How'd you figure that Al ? surely the goods loops or wherever watering is done is NR property ?.

I think that the access for a tanker has to cross WCRC property - that's the problem. Anyway, Long Preston has been used by DBC before so there must be a reason.

Think it is a twofold issue because whilst the sidings etc are NR, the water supply is a WC installation so presumably a chargeable arrangement would have to be agreed. If a tanker has to be used instead the fact @BigAl mentions applies. One way or another WC has access control so DBC + 60163 = Long Preston.

So much for the hope of a united and co-operative set of TOCs operating in the Charter Market then...

It seems as though Long Preston is a more convenient place to water and as the timings allow it to sit there for a quarter of an hour or so, why not?

Not sure how true it is but apparently the supply to the Hellifield tank comes diverted from a nearby water course not a main.

Hellifield water tank is on the wrong side, however northbound have watered from a tanker either up towards the shed, or a hydrant in the station car park. Tanker can be a problem in the car park as it's not very big and could be unable to get close with parked cars already there.
Supply to the tank used to be via a hose pipe from the station, hence the reason for problems if 2 trains want to use it the same day, tank takes a long time to refill.
Long Preston was used often in days gone by.

All the RTC Sunday Waverley trains from York to Carlisle take water at Hellifield so there must be an effective arrangement in place there.

In the past RTC trains have had a tanker using the WCR access north and the static tank south. Can't see any reason for this to change.

So question answered then. It's just more convenient to water at Long Preston and it presumably suits everyone to do so. The run straight through Appleby will also make for a pleasant continuous run over the S&C and that is unusual.
