Always remember when they had a Blood and Custard set, BR Southern Green, Maroon and Chocolate and Cream set back in the '80's. I think this has been asked before and the response was something in the line of it takes longer to apply and is harder to maintain them looking good. I for one would love to see a Blood and Custard set back on the MHR.

Crompton 33053 was used in the recent Thomas Event, luckily it had a face on one end only. RN5243.jpg RN5245.jpg

Working all weekend, so no opportunity to pop up, except perhaps at 11:00 on Sunday for 30 mins!

Makes me also feel old. I remember going there back in the late 70s. I wonder how many of the original volunteers are still working at the railway.

There are a few still left. Sounds like you've got another axe to grind Chris.

Not at all Phil, quite the opposite in fact. Are you sure that the boot is not on the other foot?
    Kind regards

Mr Harding, you will of course know that nice Queen Mary Brake Van that arrived on the Mid Hants over a year ago ?,
this came available through on of my contacts and I E-Mailed Mr Chambers as my first choice to see if he wanted first refusal, the rest is history.

Hardly the actions of someone with a grudge against the Railway ?

    My very best regards
    Chris.

Y'know, the MHR is my (very) local heritage railway. I'm an 'armchair' member but have never got actively involved because of all the politics. I think I made the right choice.

In any walk of life you're going to get politics, I don't think the MHR is any better or worse than anywhere else.
Actually, that's not true, I can think of a popular heritage railway that has had (and still seems to have) a very political scene (but I suspect there is still a large proportion of the volunteers who are not at all fazed).

I'm sure the discussion between @cct man & @chessie1 stemed more from the fact that nuances of speach do not translate easily into words on a page, so it's easy to misunderstand what someone means to say, than anything else.

Why not pop down and see if there is anywhere you want to chip in?

Did anyone get any photos from today of the 11.00,13,00,15.00 departures from Alresford with the 40th anniversary headboard.

    Thanks

I don't usually reply to many threads as there seems to be a load of b@##*^+s talked in some and you have to sift through to get the good stuff. However this time if I may interject.

I volunteered on the MHR in the loco department back in the early '80s. At that time it was very cliquey and some people were quite vociferous in their comments to others. I left to join the RAF and moved away from the area for a few years. On my return I didn't rejoin for the afore mentioned reasons.

About 10 years ago my cousin suggested volunteering and I, reluctantly, agreed. I couldn't have been more wrong! The place now has a friendly and inclusive atmosphere with some great people. The banter in the loco department is much fun and the interaction between departments and the various loco owners is becoming easier with the more open attitude that now prevails. There will always be some with an axe to grind or some other political issue but I haven't met them yet. If you are reticent of becoming an active volunteer all I can say is give it a go you'll be pleasantly surprised.

Even older. Remember using it as BR branch line, going to kick about footy with mates at Itchen Abbas, holiday jobs in Alresford and occasional trips through to Alton then change for Aldershot for football.

Does anyone know if the May loco roster going to be posted up on the website soon?

I also heard mention that 76017 may have arrived back from its travels facing country. Is this true?

    Thanks
