As Galatea approached Bristol Temple Meads this evening she would have passed close to where Bristol Barrow Road steam depot stood, another of her former depots. <BJ>

Galatea was absolutely superb today. This is now a fine Jubilee. Good enough for me to forgive the strange font on the cab numerals.

GBX running as planned with both locomotives up front.

The stock today is formed of two blood and custard coaches at the front plus the nine GBX coaches. <BJ>

Of no artistic or technical merit at all, but seeing as I was driving home from work yesterday lunchtime and unable to see it by day, I went out to watch it trundle past by night instead:

Indeed, it shot through like it was on fire or something

And 11 early passing Norton Fitzwarren. Impressive running, terrible slack timings or a little of both?

    James

Edit: Whiteball 15 early. A repeat of 2011 and 2012 when both GBs tore up the timetable... 70+ over the top of whiteball? Must have been to do Taunton-whiteball in 9 minutes (RTT estimate)!

Running time for the 58.5 miles was under 55 min. Effortless. Locos were not pushed, just driven well. Brewham - 60. Whiteball - 59. 74 through Wellington uphill was fun though.

Running to Plymouth was behind a HST so we were held in places. There also seems to be a gauge restriction through Kennaway tunnel. Minima were 32 on Dainton and 36 on Rattery.

Storming climbs of Whiteball and Dainton. Video to follow tomorrow with tomorrow's run. In the meantime here's a picture from Dainton.

I wondered why she was slowing as she passed Dawlish, as there were green signals ahead and the HST was at least 10 minutes clear. Thanks for the info.

I note the smiley face but you are so wrong on that. Alan Hodges had Braunton going nicely. The Scot was the support act as train engines should be...as you know!

Two from today - approaching Bradford-on-Avon in the gloom and passing Red Rock at Dawlish Warren.

    Unusual Combination.001.jpg 34052 and 46100 pass Dawlish.001.jpg

Fun/useless fact: Friday 5th May at 8:35, I was stood under crystal clear skies with a big red LMS monster charging out of Grange over Sands, ISO 100. Saturday 6th May at 8:35(ish), I was stood under a thick layer of cloud with 4 layers on with a double headed steam tour speeding past in Bradford-on-Avon, ISO 2500. Amazing the difference 24 hours makes...!

Pretty late, but here's my footage of 45699 Galatea tackling Patchway Bank at Cattybrook yesterday.

Our locos are now tucked up at the station with the stock over the other side in P1. It was good to be up close and personal with these lovely beasts as the support crew checked everything over including lubrication.

Spoke to someone who has fired Braunton enough times to be entitled to have a view. In short he reckons it is a predictable loco and a good steamer. Judging by today he seems to be right.
