Doubt it Ralph; listen carefully because the WC has a very soft exhaust compared to the Royal Scot's bark.

Seconds out, round 9. With luck, shots in Cornwall, Devon, Somerset and Oxfordshire today, then a short trip home. Seen from the line-side, it looks like a pretty good trip. There were some disappointments (No. 9, DL assistance for the Duchess) but more than made up for by some fantastic performances: FS to York, K1 & Black 5 on the Highland line, K1 to Kyle, and so on. Also, the fantastic weather (apart from the Saturdays) has really helped. I hope it has been as satisfying for the passengers.

Will RTC run another Great Britain? I think they will, but maybe not next year. But I think I said that last year...

It was really meant to wind up the Bulleid supporters.

But 34052 is a detuned version so surely you meant to wind up the Jarvis supporters. ;)

Now you are getting technical, I have no idea who Jarvis is/was. Oh dear that will probably upset them even more.:)

Be aware that the timings given by uksteam for the section between Taunton and Bristol are incorrect.

I assume that when the timings first appeared the water stop had been arranged for Taunton rather than Bristol TM.

I've sent an email to David to advise him of the alterations. <BJ>

Spamcan81 probably means Jarvis Cocker who was singer with the band, Pulp, who recorded the track Mile End that was used on the soundtrack of the film Trainspotting . . . but why that would upset his supporters, too technical for me too!

Ronald G Jarvis, who had the bright idea of detuning Oliver Bulleid's fine creations and in the case of the Light Pacifics, making them not so light as they were. So you can upset his supporters as much as you like. ;)

27 early into Exeter after a 6 late start in Plymouth. I don't think I've ever seen steam go up to Dainton tunnel so quick before. Must have been doing 45 at least at Coombe Fishacre.

A quick headline update from the train.

PNZ to PLY. A really clever bit of technical driving and firing on a switchback route that takes no prisoners with it's varying speed limits and gradients. Superb throughout.

PLY to EXD. Effortless climb of Hemerdon although caught up the HST at Ivybridge and later at Totnes. Dainton was the place to be for speed. Looking forward to seeing any videos.

And to prove the point we kept the HST schedule of 23 min start to stop between Newton Abbot and Exeter. Stunning.

For me, Galatea took the limelight in the final part of the Great Britain tour, with the event finally rekindling some of the great action which was captured in
the early years of the Great Britain tours ! Thanks to all who were involved and prepared to book ! Enjoy =)

Not so much detuned as made more user friendly. If they were detuned how do you explain the performance today.
Having a great day with the SLS boys. Full credit toNR Signallers's all the way from PNZ to EXE. Hope we've put some smiles on a few faces. A

Bit off thread, but we always go that way...

You must have missed the 31st August 2002's Eden Express when 6024 with 9 on - the 58 mins and 9 secs from Plymouth to Exeter train - blasted into the tunnel at 42+. I'm sure someone will throw up a link to the video of that amazing climb.

Whiteball passed at 66.5. Looped at Taunton but still ran EXD to BTM in under 70 min. That's some kind of record.
