Probably. Don't suppose anyone has pictures of it lately, taken when its been under test in yard. Would be a help for a project I'm working on. You watch, if I paint it black, they will repaint the engine a different colour!

Clearly that is so, probably due to running maintenance demands of other locos increasing now the main season is underway. The Scot has been required more than anticipated due to other unavailabilities plus the 8F has obviously been the focus of intensive activity to get it certified again. Lots of plates to spin.

It's certainly a good week for merchant navy's 35018 moving about , 35028 due out on light test runs and 35006 in use all week at gwsr. Like buses , Three come along at once

    Two things.

    1. Its good to see the engine out on test, that looks like shes nearly ready for a loaded test run if running about so freely. It looks like WCRC have done some serious work on overhauling her for traffic and even made improvements on some adaptions already done.
    2. Drat - going to have to go back and rip apart a tender I had already modified and worked on. The coal space on the tender has been massively extended.

One question: whats the extra kit behind the right side smoke deflector? on the right from that red valve...

Yes, I had a slight doubt about which Bulleid it was heading out when I saw that video. You never quite know with WCRC. Not having the MN Nameplate mounting plate on the loco threw me a bit. But what gives it away is the box behind the right hand side smoke deflector. It's unique to 35018 IIRC.

I don't know - that's why I'm asking. Seems odd to have something connected to it the way it does if that's what it is...

It's how they were on the original - one of a couple of areas where 35018 was non-standard relative to the other MNs. Discussed earlier in the thread.

Thanks for the help. Merchant Navy's are well out of my comfort zone in terms of knowledge of detail.

Is it the same on both sides of the engine?

Hell is that the only way to tell them apart - and people dare to suggest that all GWR loco's look the same?

Seriously though much Kudos to WCRC (although I suspect they won't get much from many on here), yet another Barry survivor restored and back where she should be, and all this only a week or so after they renewed their much admired commitment to continuing 8 coupled freight engines on the mainline!!

Should be and seems to be from the earlier photos when she first reappeared.

One of the other 35018-specific quirks, the double right angle bends in the injector feed pipes, doesn't seem to have been replicated. However, pictures of 35018 in her BR career suggest it was eliminated fairly early on. It looked rubbish anyway.

On the fake nameplates front, It would have been more amusing to put Tangmere on to upset the Spamcanners, It coulden't be anymore useless in rebuilt form ;)

On spot the difference, would there be additional wash-out plugs on the larger MN boiler? Coming next - counting the rivets ...

Are Bodmins plate and crest not already on a back plate and thus much easier to fix temporarily than Tangmeres which are bolted separately to the casing.

For traditions sake she should have come out with Leanders name plates attached!
