LE Movements, ECS and Test Runs 2017

The interlaced track is still there, or was last year, but not now used of course. There is a really excellent hotel near the station which is a good base for exploring the Vivarais line. Sorry, very off topic....

Where are Arpley Sidings? In Warrington? I presume that's a diesel and/or some stock to be used in the test run to Chester later. IIRC, Clan Line may be making a few shorter L/E runs around Crewe during the day.

 

RTT says it just left Carnforth at 1159...

 

I'm guessing it's a 67 being arpley is DB depot

35018left hellifield 16 down, 14 down at settle junction, but no further reports, as far as i can see, any further news?

 

Mrs W and I made our way up to Clapham (North Yorks). It was just as well that it was warm and sunny as it was almost 13.15 (33L) before BIL appeared, looking resplendent in his shiny black coat, travelling very slowly. Mick Rawling was driving and leaning out of the cab watching the gap at the platform edge; I assumed that there was a clearance issue, but there was no acceleration after the station and less than 100 yards beyond the loco stopped and a couple of individuals climbed down and began to check the motion/ bearings? on the fireman's side. After a few minutes the loco drew forward another 20 yards and was then subject to another check, some fifteen minutes later when we left the loco had not moved.

The owner was taking his turn with the shovel and was one of the two individuals attending the problem. I was told that subject to 35018 (not 98818 as chalked on the smoke box door) being fettled in time it would be out next week with Leander for the official light test run (Hellifield and back) and the following week for its loaded test run (full circuit thro' Blackburn). The test run had previously been postponed because of problems with newly manufactured injectors.

Back home via Bowland Knotts and Slaidburn for a bacon butty at the Riverside cafe (Mrs W likes a bacon butty) then out tonight to see one of my heroes, Count Arthur Strong.

 

Has just appeared back on the Carnforth diagram on railcam so looks like its made it home.

 

I guess 98018 will be it's TOPS number.

Those diagrams tend to lead actual arrival because it seems to put the reporting number in the location that it is cleared to enter rather than where it actually is - which makes sense from a signalling point of view.

 

At least it made it back and didnt have to be dragged back, when i heard those words hot bearing it does make the heart sink, hopefully the snagging list isnt too long, but this is the first time since withdrawal that 35018 has done any mileage under its own power, so some problems have to be expected

SR WC/MN class 4-6-2 'Bodmin' aka ('British India Line') trundles through Starricks during it's light engine introduction to the mainline. David Smith and his staff at West Coast are to be congratulated on returning this engine from scrapyard condition back to where it belongs-well done

 

35028 currently awaiting the road at the north end of CDD. Support coach and DBC loco in tow. Hope all goes well.

 

Well done that man, I made it more difficult by typing the wrong number it was 98818, which makes more sense. Never underestimate my ability to type things incorrectly, or to overlook the obvious.
