Indeed. I'm somewhat surprised that the NRM haven't published it on their website, which was why I was hanging back. AFAIK, she should be in service at the late May bank holiday weekend, but I'd suggest confirming with the NRM first.

Great pictures! I was fireman on that run, the driver certainly made me work for it....

Any chance you could share those with the Camelot Society Facebook page?

See post #2419 - it stayed on for another weekend (which happened to be the weekend of the BRPS AGM) working the normal service trains.

No. 178 touched down in York this afternoon. I understand that it will be giving brake van rides in the South Yard of the NRM all next week. Here are a couple of pictures:- IMG_3354 copy.jpg IMG_3362 copy.jpg

I hope someone checked the height on the bridge on the way in and that they check it again before it comes out.

Wonder if there are going to be any reshuffles in the great hall that might open up the opportunity of the 'P' and the 'D' to be photographed together?

This may be of interest. No 178 in a previous life at Kemsley Mill in 1968 when it was owned by Bowaters. They used it to haul coal from the exchange sidings on the Sheerness Branch

Is it 27 that has the cylinder issues so is restricted to 'light duties'?

No, it's 178. No. 27 is subject to a complete restoration at the moment, having not run since about 1974 - see http://wainrightsfinestsecr27.blogspot.co.uk/

I believe it was transferred to a lower low loader to get through Leeman Road bridge. They did take the whistle off the cab roof though before attempting to get through - its back in place now. Interestingly in Johnb's photo the whistle is in front of the cab not on top of it. And we did ponder about how nice it would be to have the P and the D together during the Great Hall shunt but this is unlikely to happen as they are in different halves of the Museum and there is no easy (or cheap) way of transferring either of them.

The current whistle isn't original, though from photographic evidence, the location (on the cab roof) is original - the location shown in @Johnb's photo seems to be a later modification, probably in BR days (clearer photo here: http://www.bluebell-railway.co.uk/bluebell/locos/178/31178-RD-220859.jpg).

The low bridge isn't as low as it says it is. (12 feet.) I had to arrange for a wagon to be delivered back to the NRM and specified the max height. I checked the height when on the low loader and it was 9" over. The driver said, as long as it was lower than his cab, it would fit as he regularly took it under the bridge. It was, and it fitted.
