35018 British India Line

It's a Bulleid, built for use on the Southern Railway. So they didn't have generators, just stuck a shoe down onto the juice rail when they needed the lights to go on...

Yes, almost probably they are,
Its a sort of Improbability drive - They feed off the angst waves generated when the Locomotive is painted an improbable colour

 

Thank god its black then. If it were purple or cream or gold they may as well hook it up to the national grid....

 

I think i'd settle for a really strong cup of tea.

 

Dont forget about the auxiliary firebox heaters that cut down on coal consumption when on the juice

 

Where a shoe isn't fitted, any part of the motion put in contact with the 3rd rail will suffice...

That seems very dangerous. I presume you are joking. Anyway how is 35018 coming along? I was hoping for some more news and/or photos.

Looks epic, that early crest looks just right

 

TBH I could live with it in plain black. But if it's going to have a BR crest on it then I think it should be in lined green.

But is it? I'm sure I read somewhere that heraldically the crest should face right no matter which side it's on but that may have been referring to the later crest.

 

Seems to be a lot of effort going into a comedy testing appearance, like the proper painted cabside numbers, Really, You went to that trouble just for testing ?.

 

Except it's too big if you looked at the official picture of the newly outshopped 35018 in 1956 but as the rest of it is wrong I suppose it doesn't matter

 

I thought that the crest was the wrong way round but was too scared to post first! I understand that the later (post 1957) crest can only be shown one way (the lion holding the wheel has to face left) as it was taken from an official coat of arms - it being a no-no to reverse any part of aforementioned arms. Some locos carried it the wrong way for a while until the faux-pas was pointed out. I'm sure some Nat-Pres contributors will confirm this.

 

Are you sure they're painted? They could be decals. I've changed a few loco identities using those.
