Usually this tour is pure steam, but with steam off at Derby, you're going to need diesel traction to Matlock. I assume this is to do with the lack of time available to service the engine. Times are up anyway. The usual slow drag northwards on the ECML, though the return has a section of FL running from Connington to Stevenage. Late back too !

Duchess too large for turntable at Rowsley and, likely to be too heavy for bridge at Matlock.

Presumably top-and-tail with a box, as it takes the freight line from Sheet Stores Junc to Stenson Junc and reverses there, dropping the Duchess off in Derby.

Too long, discussed previously when 6201 only went to Derby on an SD trip to Peak Rail last August.

Don't suppose anyone knows why the tour is still stood at Holme?

According to a post on wnxx, "Duchess booked take on water at Holme Crossing, but the tanker turned up on the wrong side of the crossing. Instead if being on the down side of the line, it turned up on the up side"....

I wonder if the driver was told the down side and like most people took this to mean the side heading down to London....o_O

He should have known that the best people go up to London. You also go up to Oxford and Cambridge if you are going to the University but down to those places if you're just a travelling pleb.;)

There are three of us stewards living in the Cheshire and South Lancashire area and we often travel together, going up to Carnforth or Dumfries, across to York, Scarborough or Saltburn, or down to Kidderminster or Bedford.

But the concept of London being "on high" pre-dates the understanding of geography.;)

Not to us Northerners is doesn't, some even consider Yorkshire to be the true epicentre to the country, but I could not possible comment on that.
