Did the original WSR actually have a livery? OTOH 9351 is a genuine WSR locomotive, so both GWR or BR(W) liveries are just as authentic as a "WSR" livery.

    No.

The WSR was, from the start, worked by the Bristol and Exeter

Back in the day the Dart Valley had a pannier with 'DART VALLEY' on the tanks in GW style and colours. I don't think 9351 would look out of place with WSR on its tender in place of GWR and it would be factually accurate.

It's puzzling me when this is. Are those tracks on the WSR?

The photographers (and I) would hate it.

I thought it might intrigue one or two.

Not on the WSR. A bit of an historic survivor. Somewhere close to the Somerset / Dorset county boundary....

    Quite right.

One of the few bits of S&D track left in place.

Actually, that's the part where the siding went into the gas works and not the main line at all. The main line crossed a few yards further up (away from the village) where there's now a definite hump in the road.

Livery: it's all subjective. Can't please all of the people all of the time

Sorry, well OT now, but the S&D main line crossed from where the telegraph pole is behind the car and down the side of the chain link fencing of the factory yard. There was a level crossing where the hump in the road is.

I appreciate it wasn't the main line but not many places where even S&D sidings have lurked since 1966?

Totally agree and wasn't knocking it. It's just odd that the length of track they elected to retain was to a siding and not the main line.
I'd bet the vast majority of residents using that road assume that that was the path of the main line without knowing different.

I should think that the sleepers in the crossing will be in a bit of a dire state by now.

I'm sure it was just a matter of chance. Too much trouble to reinstate the road to bother lifting the rails and not enough deterioration of the road to have made it worthwhile since...

Mabey not , but we're not catering for the 'could'nt care less' , A GWR loco is still a GWR loco however long its been in other hands , thats where it was built! This goes for other railway company's as well.

Following the butchery done to 5193 they could paint the new creation pink adorned with flowers & still call it an authentic livery.
