I see the timings for this are now on RTT. Do we still not publicise them on here?

Some changes from the original itinery, in that the start from Paddington is now a start from Victoria, and I see the return terminates at Reading. Presumably it's a service train for anyone returning to the smoke.

Am I right to think that the loco we don't discuss the timetable for is hauling only the outward leg?

It's all a bit ridiculous isn't it? I bet NR is delighted that not only does it have to find a path for the train but also switch it from line to line to get the locomotive around 'prohibits'. If it were not FS I suspect they might be less amenable.

As far as the Stafford restriction is concerned, is that a typo? I tbought it would be platform 5 that would be used.

Our local radio is reporting that the line between Crewe and Chester is closed due to (over-running?) engineering work and buses are in use. Hope this is resolved by this afternoon.

It hadn't occurred to me at the time, but could it be that 5043 EoME was switched to the down fast line for the 14 mile Tilehurst East-Didcot East section of the returning Moonraker tour (8th April) for the very same reason? (i.e.Tilehurst RL Prohibition) I don't recall that we overtook any local stopping services in doing so.

If this was the case, its also worth recalling that we still encountered a slack at Goring, so maybe the expedient of just switching from relief to fast and v.v is not without its own problems. Perhaps we are looking at just another piece of the jigsaw of increasing constrictions, not confined to FS, that certainly seemed to afflict the Moonraker at a number of locations on that day.

Seen this morning from the footbridge at Didcot North Junction. Not my ideal choice of location but real life gets in the way sometimes. As in this pic, I've never managed to get a shot of FS when it looks like it's actually working! Today was typical but to be fair, it was approaching the points and nothing going north moves very fast at this point. Oh well, maybe another time!! flying_scotsman_02.jpg
