Neither of them are true 'B' sets because they are Brake thirds rather than Brake composites. I presume the WSR didn't want them because they are non-corridor coaches.

The WSR is having the wreck of a restaurant coach from Pontypool though!

 

Does anyone know the identities of these 15 wagons? Have these been purchased outright or just hired?

Has that cross between a Mk 1 and Mk 2 (I think they called them XP64s) 1883 left the SVR yet? If so, where to?

 

Yes - gone to the Weardale according to VCT survey. It isn't, however, a hybrid or XP64 (the catering vehicles on the XP64 train were standard Mark 1s, as were the brakes and the FO), but probably the final build Mark 1. It is on the underframe of one of the early, coal fired (honest) Mark 1 kitchen cars but was rebuilt in 1968. I've had some excellent "minty lamb-burgers" and a very nice pint in it and night running on the Valley sat in the "bar" rather than "booth" end was very pleasant also but the coach has no opening windows other than droplights, low seating capacity for its weight and seems to have been found to be more of a problem than a benefit wherever it has gone in preservation - according to VCT, Weardale (who seem willing to try any Mark 1, regardless of condition!) is its fourth home in preservation.

I also see that the Rudd wagons at Swanage were returned to EWS and then promptly sent for scrap. Seems a shame that a few weren't retained seeing as they were so useful.

 

The Rudds were very useful but we had (have) no sidings space to spare.

 

The plan was to leave the Birds Nest and fit a bufferstop in the bay leaving enough space to accomodate a 2 car DMU. As always at Swanage space is a problem, there is currently no-where else for a suitable catering facility at Swanage Station.

 

Taff Vale Railway coach 153 of 1874 has been aquired by the Gwili Vintage Carriage Group from the Barry Island Railway and has now moved to West Wales.

The coach requires a full restoration before it can enter traffic but is in reasonable condition with all 10 doors intact and the body already secured on an underframe.

No restoration work will commence on this coach until GWR coach 216 is completed (hopefully by October).

The coach is identical to another body aquired by the Group in 2006 (TVR 145) and will be restored to run with this and already operational TVR 220 to form a 3 coach TVR Train.

 

Queen Mary Brake Van 56303, formerly at Newport East Usk yard, is now at the Dean Forest Railway. This just leaves 56299 at Bescot as the only un-preserved example.

 

Please tell if you would , is this one at Bescot a runner or for sale??

It is not a runner, and is stored in the middle of the yard. Superficially it looked in decent condition a few weeks ago (from a passing train). As for whether it is for sale, check the EWS diposals page on their website.

 

The Cambrian Railway Trust at Llynclys has recently taken delivery of some wagons. These were previously in store at Aberthaw power station in South Wales. There were two 2-axle flat wagons, one bogie rail wagon (probably a Salmon), and an inspection trolley. Their identities have not yet appeared on the railway's website.

 

Mark 1 RBR 1666 has left the NYMR for Rampart at Derby, the new owners.

 

Collett BTK no 5131 has arrived at the West Somerset Railway from Bodmin, for eventual restoration by the Heritage Carriages Project.

 

BR Mk1 CK No. 16232 has been purchased by the Gwili Railway and arrived there from the Severn Valley Railway on Tuesday 9th December

 

I see that Metro- Cammel Pullman "Eagle" will be moving to the Mid-Hants soon once it has had some tlc.

This vehicle is owned by the NRM.

Gresley RF 42969 has changed hands and is now owned by the LNER Carriage Association, its moved from the Woolwich museum to the NYMR.
