It'll be interesting to see it with 13 on, as per the current Dalesman's.

There's a historic house in candy stripes that suggests different.

The duty to history lies in the restoration and conservation of the artefact. Paint is a consumable and not a vital part of the conservation.

I didn't suggest otherwise. On this subject though, I think the editorial in the current issue of Steam Railway is bang on. There is a danger of losing sight of what railway preservation should be all about

    Is that this one?

In my experience, property developers always win, because councils don't have the money to fight them in the courts. I think it would be a different outcome if the building was listed.

Whether it's WC directly or RTC, SD etc each of them trades on the heritage of their offering, the vintage recreation. The coaches are very close to their traditional colours, a very definite attempt to recreate a certain ambience. Accepting most passengers are not concerned with authenticity, what strategy is it that determines the recreation ends with the stock? Logically the icing on the cake is a loco turned out to complete the image? If the passengers do not demand inauthenticity there is no logical reason to paint locos other than as they were.
46115 - perfectly done, but since then? What has changed and why?

Sorry got the order of outshopping mixed up but yes another correct one which could legitimately have been painted green either 1948 style or as per early preservation days.
The point being authenticity seemed to matter but with 45699 and seemingly 35018 not so. As ralph says the livery does not influence custom so there is no benefit in being wacky.

So I presume you disapprove of West Coast logos on the rolling stock in place of the BR emblem. ;)

They would certainly look better without it or much smaller

The branding on the coaches is subtle and purposeful within the context of an otherwise authentic recreation. I doubt many enthusiats would be concerned by similarly unobtrusive variation schemes on the steam locos.

The modernisations and branding the various outfits have made have generally always been sympathetic to the overall appearance. LSL's 46100 air pump being a particularly good example. They went to great lengths to make it as unobtrusive as possible. Top marks for going that little bit further to make things right, as anyone restoring a locomotive would want to do.

The two (or more) sides in the livery debate will never see eye to eye...
Although in this case, given was have quite a lot of rebuilt Bulleid pacifica about, and all the others in "authentic" livery, it seems rather a big fuss. Surely if you like GWR livery on a Bulleid, go and see one of those (Clan Line or P&O or Taw Valley or whatever), if you like something a bit different and are prepared to acknowledge it is 2017 and not 1967 (thank goodness), go and see BIL. Which might well be green soon anyway.... My vote would be Furness red or North British browny-green...

If BIL is going to be appearing on the Dalesman the it will certainly be worth the trip up to the dales to see it. Much better than the 8F, even if not on home turf.

Or as may well be the case, "Lass" since Miss Walker has already had a go firing the 8F on the S&C.

Following all the WCRC suspensions I can remember reading somewhere that trains would have a maximum length of 10 or 11 Cars?

Only Carnforth could have replaced one powerful loco by another at less than 24 hrs notice as happened on Mon/Tue with the Dalesman. So, acknowledge the upside!

Question--- does there need to be gauging before 35018 gets any further than Hellifield? Or are an MNs dimensions the same as or within those of something else such as a Brit?

And top marks to whoever authorized it for letting the young lady have a go. And even more marks to the lady for taking it on, firing anything up the S&C is not for t he faint hearted.
