Nobody seemed to answer your question??? 1008 I am old enough to remember using them. My last purchase was 3 blackjacks from the little corner shop that was at the bottom of Alma Street and South Street. Now just a house with a large window. That would have been mid 1950s but they actually ceased to be legal tender 31 Dec 1960. Can I buy the Ostrich burger and chips for 3 groats and expect 1 thruppeny piece change?

Not a problem isolated to Yorkshire I feel. It has been well worth passing the exam to be able to let myself out! :)

    Further thread drift:
When I first met the word "gricer", many years ago, it meant "one who grices", where "grice" had the specific sense of "ride on a bit of line or track that one has not ridden on before". A classic quote was "The squealing of flanges is music in the gricer's ear". One of the railway atlases was nicknamed "the gricer's guide". If the meaning has become broadened to a mere synonym for "railway enthusiast" that seems to me a pity.

If anyone is interested the 1105 diesil service on Saturday is down for load 9, which should make the 47 cough a bit. If you like that sort of thing

I see they've laid a bit of track by the cattle dock, or is that the same bit of track that was there a few years ago? Dick Wood had a van on there plus I think the gunpowder van.

To look right it would have to be a cattle truck.

To look right it would need to be connected to the main track.

AIUI that is the plan but it needs resources and effort. Maybe Faol can tell us more.

But anything left on the track adjacent the cattle dock would obstruct the otherwise clear view loco crews have of a foot crossing, and then presumably some other mitigation would be required that could not rely on always having Stogumber manned when trains were required to pass.

At that location I would have thought a camping coach would be the ideal thing (except for the comment I made above).
