I of course am too young to remember steam in its heyday therefore if you claim the whistle sounds right then so be it!

For those with a copy of the Transacord EP 'Gresley Pacifics' the track with 'Book Law,' at Retford South Crossing is earth-shattering! Side 2 - track 2.

That's how an A3 should sound!

Really should have made the A4 chime standard.

I do remember A3's just and also seen Huntley Archive (no dubbing) and the A3 whistle is a high pitch whistle that could be heard ( a bit like Tornado's alternative 2nd whistle, but a pitch higher). There is clearly something wrong with 60103's whistle because, as a warning device for passengers on platforms and workmen on the track, it simply fails to deliver. More of a wheeze than a shrill. Maybe they can fix it but probably have bigger priorities on their plate!!

I was going to make the same point. The LNER Pacific whistle and the LNER standard whistles are very similar in shape and size where it matters. Attached is a pic of the two together. The LNER standards do vary in bell shape at the top, and dimensions (external height of bell + / - 1/2"). The outside diameter is a shade under 3 1/2" in both cases. Definitely something wrong with Scotsman's whistle. The NRM is welcome to try my whistle (reputed to be off Happy Knight) and keep it if it works better (but not re-sell, same clause as their disposals!).

:Shamefullyembarrased: (this is the nearest I could get to an embarrassed emoticon, although it is annotated as "shamefully embarrassed", which sounds suitable for what in Chinese can be translated as "liberating the buttocks".

(Don't shoot the messenger but) I believe the correct term for these coloured icons is "emoji", which is a Japanese word, the resemblance of which to English words such as "emotion" and "emotive" is coincidental; while "emoticon" refers to combinations of ASCII characters such as ;-)

As you say it's a warning device that could save someone's life, it should be the highest of priorities and it baffles me why nothing has been done.

I guess it meets whatever standards there are otherwise it would fail it's FTR. Horribly ineffective though. Thought Tornado's wasn't that great but it's so much louder than Scotsman's.
