Reported on WWRail at 08:30 this morning (Thursday 15/06/17), loco laying over at junction (probably on A500 west side of M6 where there have previously been locos laid over). Can anybody confirm loco id, or say where/when it is going next?

    Bill.

Thanks for the replies. 30587 being at MOSI is interesting. I haven't photographed that, so will pay a visit ASAP, possibly tomorrow!

Is it in steam or just on display at MOSI?

It's been a while since I took my daughter there. She could probably use another visit for educational purposes. Ahem.

30585 was a temporary placeholder. Cornwall has now been positioned in the Rewley Road building.

There is a photo on the Buckinghamshire Railway Centre Facebook page of it in position.

Nice to see 30587 in the classic surroundings of Liverpool Road. Also good to see some other items out in the sunshine. Pity about the silly headboard on Planet.

Not sure what I'd want to do more, Rip the headboard off planet or attack the EM2 with some BR Black.

Glad you enjoyed my contribution to Planet then. It serves a purpose to tell part of the story of the Planet class, one of the first true inter-city locomotives. Hope this image is a little more pleasing on the eye.

Think you've taken my post rather more seriously than it was intended...

Thought you'd want an explanation as to what it was for. Plus it being my headboard, like the Mancunian one on 30587, I decided to do with it as I wanted. Not often we use them

Ian - I'm not an accomplished photographer by any means, but I do look out for settings that help me to record preserved rolling stock against an authentic background. Seeing Planet at Liverpool Road ought to be the perfect combination, but alas the headboard shatters the illusion. I know we enthusiasts sometimes take ourselves too seriously, but it's a shame when so much effort goes in to preserving/recreating scenes from the past only for the illusion to be spoiled by something trivial like a headboard.

Having said that, I had an enjoyable couple of hours on Saturday, and I particularly enjoyed the shunting demonstration by the electric loco.

Here's a nice shot of Planet at Beamish, sans headboard.

    Regards - Tim

All you had to do was ask for it to be removed, I did it for a few folks who came to the photo charter the other week with 30587. I'm surprised you've not moaned about The Mancunian. Don't forget we as a museum are there to tell the story of the engines, we aren't there to faff about for photographers. We want to inspire young people and tell them the history. I'm not there to make a good photo but clearly everyone thinks I am, like when on 587 and told they 'want smoke' on every trip. Answer, no.
