Does Clan Line have a steam powered coal pusher in the tender? If not what would cause steam to be released at the back top edge of the tender?

From memory that's where the air compressor is situated on 35028.

That might be it - I am talking about the plume visible in this photo of Clan Line with the Waterloo Sunset heritage excursion, just outside Tisbury today

Remember, this was a UK Railtours promotion, utilising the Belmond coaching stock. So basically Belmond received a fixed fee from UKR for provision of said stock + catering. So John Farrow was free to decide the fare levels, which would have been based on what he set the 'break-even' load level at - this may well be different from the percentage Belmond use for their own operations. In the event, the train was full, so smiley faces all round!
There certainly will be future UKR/Belmond/Clan Line trips following the "Bournemouth Belle" and "Golden Arrow". As usual, what is feasible/sensible/affordable will be deciding factors.

According to Heritage Railway Clan Line's non Belmond dates, which negotiations are on going, are planned to be:-

    18/4 KX to Norwich
    13/6 Exeter
3 Trips out of Bristol on 11, 19 & 25 July. One is a Torbay.
And 2 trips are envisaged in the run up to Christmas.

As the Torbay is no a West Coast working, that cannot be right so I would question the accuracy of any of it. The two trips up to Christmas are both Belmond and already announced.

In 2017 (I think) clan Line did a couple of non-Belmond trips in the Christmas period including one to Sherborrne.

I must admit, it is disappointing and quite surprising that there don't seem to be any non-pullman short days out like the "King Alfred" in early 2017. I think they both sold well (My wife and I were on the third such train that follows a similar route to next year's Valentine Day Pullman and there weren't many empty seats. ) If you want Southern steam at its very best, not too long a day out and no tail-gunner, these trains with Clan Line at the front took some beating and were very reasonably priced. For those of us who live in the south of England who don't find it convenient to travel vast distances before boarding our steam special, don't want too long a day out and who want 100% steam, there has been hardly anything worthy of consideration this year. Sadly, 2020 looks to be little better apart from the possibility of RTC's Dorset Coast Express train using 31806 on what has hitherto been the diesel leg. If we get another dry summer and the New Forest becomes a fire hazard, it would sadly mean a second main-line-steam free year for me.

This is all for 2020 so you may find that the two trips up to Christmas refer to two more charters between the summer and Christmas of 2020, not this year.

As for the Torbay, I think this just means a Pathfinder/DBC charter to Kingswear as has happened in the past. What may be less accurate are precise dates as much has to be synchronised before such things are confirmed.

Clan Line to Exeter again? What's not to like? As for duff info. I don't think that HR is into that kind of thing!

I can confirm, having been up on the tender and been shoveling coal forward towards the locomotive on the 5th December trip - no, we do not have a steam powered coal pusher. We do however have three tea powered ones! :)

Fun, isn't it? I've done the same thing on 34027. There's nothing quite like shovelling a few tons of coal forward. In Margate. In December...

It was good fun! I am unsure if anyone got any photographs of us doing it but I was the one in the burgandy turtleneck, high vis and blue hard hat! :)

It’s an advance on a three piece suit which seems to be @S.A.C. Martin normal attire in the vicinity of Clan Line! ;)

Nothing is colour coordinated with group standard orange - apart from more group standard orange!

Is it just me or is Clan Line's paint somewhat lighter in colour since the last overhaul than it was before? It really was the green equivalent of "Midnight Blue" before, a very dark shade indeed, and it suited it well. Now it's a fair bit lighter IMO and (purely subjectively) I don't think it looks quite right. Just a case of what I'm used to, I guess!

Of course, beautiful is as beautiful does, and seeing the video of Clan Line storming Wellington Bank a year or two back was almost enough to bring a tear to the eye!

It’s just you. Are you looking at it in photographs or in the flesh? Any colour will look different in different lighting conditions
