A return to steam for Scaldwell is a mouthwatering prospect. Amberly deserve so much credit for it's survival, although it always looked so sad and lifeless every time I saw it on it's isolated length of track.

Van 40 looks the part too! Exciting times indeed in Suffolk.

Just in case anyone was thinking of going to their open days this coming weekend (15/16), be aware it is Latitude Festival at Henham Park as well, so the roads in the area are likely to be a bit busy.....

I wish them luck with Scaldwell although looking at it at Amberley on Sunday, whilst it appears remarkably complete in terms of fittings etc. , it looks as if pretty much everything in terms of platework from the running plate upwards is likely to need replacement.
Hopefully the boiler is reasonably sound and the running gear not too bad.

Is the initial plan for a cosmetic restoration, whilst funds are raised for a full overhaul?

Sad to think that when it arrived at Brockham it was in excellent condition and was steamed into its final ( Brockham) resting place in the stable.

Wonder if it would be good publicity to rename Scaldwell as Walberswick? I think Walberswick was the only stop on the original route that didn't have a locomotive named after it. Just thought it might help fundraising for the locomotive to have a more local name.

It's a possibility but we hope to also be able to tell the story of 3' gauge in England too. The NRM have gifted us the remains of a Scaldwell tippler waggon to go with the loco

I understand there is video of it being shunted along the track on facebook. But as a non-user I wonder if someone can post the clip(s) on here?

Don't bother, it's a closed group, thus a FB account does not help.
Closed groups should be for paying or active members only, not just to collect as many "friends" as possible.
To erquire membership of the group to write is another thing, often needed to keep the discussion at a decent level.
