That's only a partial list. There's plenty more at the Surrey site.

Well that is a welcome development and one that I thought I would never see in my lifetime. I notice that there are several locos that are part of Collection "X" that aren't on the list, such as the Couillets, the "Tigrisbahn" Henschels , the Avonside Heisler, the 2 Bagnalls - one of which is an articulated one like "Monarch", plus, I think that there was a South African 2'-0" Garratt as well. Perhaps this is an initial list, or the Ramptons will still be potentially using some of those mentioned on their railway in Surrey. Nonetheless, I am delighted that I may well see some of these locos in the near future.

    Cheerz,

    Alan

I'm not sure I would regard McAlpine 31 0-6-0 at Fawley Hill to be "locked away". The Fawley Museum Society Ltd has 4 or 5 steam days a year when the site is open to prebooked visitor groups and train rides behind 31 are available.

An important clarification – this is a list of the museum collection owned by the Vale of Rheidol Railway. The Phyllis Rampton Narrow Gauge Railway Trust do not own any locomotives.

I'm glad the list has been well received. The list is a comprehensive list of locomotives and artefacts owned by the Vale of Rheidol Railway to clarify some of the myths which have been circulating for donkeys of years! Other locomotives commonly mis-attributed to the PRNGRT are owned personally by Mr Peter Rampton.

Establishing a museum to house item's from the railway's collection has long been one of the objectives of the Vale of Rheidol Railway. Phase 1 was to build and equip a workshop to enable restoration works to take place, this is now completed. A museum will follow in due course, but as anybody who has followed the VoR over recent years will know that it doesn't do things by half measures! There are some real gems in the collection many of which have been out of public view for a long time.

    Regards,

    Will Smith

Speaking of which, pictures of the ex-Baumschule Garratt en route to the VoR have just appeared on the Narrow Gauge World Facebook page.

Great to have the list, will be wonderful when the museum is open.
I think there may be a couple of small errors in the list?
I am pretty sure that Indian Railways 666 was a CC class 4-6-2, not 0-6-4T, originally built (as Class C) by NBL for the Bengal Nagpur Railway.
Also I think the two 2' gauge KS pacifics at the bottom are ex-Central Railway, Gwalior (I.e. Scindia lines), not Western Railway, Dabhoi. The latter (formerly the Gaekwar of Baroda's State Railway) was 2'6'' gauge.
All three pacifics are very handsome and absolute gems!

Thanks for that Andrew. Our list is showing No 666 as a 4-6-0 - you are correct it is a pacific. I shall amend. Looking into the other details.

    All the best,

That loco is the oldest Bristol built loco in existence and is/was owned by Bristol City Council. Before going to the BIM, it had been at Bitton. In the early 70's I was one of a group that actually carried out some cosmetic restoration to the loco. Before the BSRS sprang up it had been loaned by BCC to the group at Radstock.
The loco had been working at Mountain Ash NCB system and on a visit there when that was working, some older staff assured us that "Coffeepot" as the FW was nicknamed, had been working the day before it was taken away.

I've dug out my 1980 edition of preserved Locomotives. There is a photograph of LNWR 0-4-0ST number 1439. It had passed into industrial use, but in 1954 was presented to the BTC for preservation. According to the book it was repainted into LNWR green with it's original number and is "now in Staffs CC Industrial Museum at Shugborough Hall". Whenever I've been in the area, that museum was closed. Anyone seen this loco in recent years?

The book also hjas a photo of LBSCR e1 0-6-0T 110 which was preserved at Chasewater in it's BR guise as 32110. "This loco has now gone to the East Somerset Railway". Is that loco still with us? I only ask as I couldn't see it in a current list of preserved locos.

It has been on display in the Museum at Ribble Steam Railway in Preston for quite a few years now.

The Riverside building is useless as a museum. GCC should have spent more on space and less on fancy architects. You can hardly see the locos and the car wall is a disaster. The ship model conveyor belt thing isn't all bad though

BR guise (either as 32110 or W2) is fictitious for this loco, it having been sold into industrial service as early as 1927 from whence it was preserved directly, without ever entering BR stock.

I can understand why some people may think that, the steam locos aren't ideally located in and it's not aimed at those with specialist interests, but I was very pleasantly surprised and made for an enjoyable afternoon IMO.
