Pickering's not a big place. Let's hope they find the guilty parties and they receive appropriate punishment for their crime.

I agree. Small consolation but at least they didn't torch them. Shows the need for secure undercover accomodation.

According to the BBC news 5 of the little ba$tards were found asleep on the train. Absolutely disgraceful - where did the excuses for parents think their 'little treasures' were all night? The staff must be absolutely gutted.

Assuming these 5 were some of the ones who did the damage, they can presumably be taken to court for the damages. If any of them are under-age, the parents would in that case probably have to pay...

Fair enough, although this photo is already in the public domain on multiple platforms. I have reported my own post as it doesn't seem to be possible to delete an uploaded photo.

 

I appreciate what you say but the more widespread these become the greater the chance of the suspect claiming it is not possible for them to receive a fair trial.

I have to say that I have been greatly moved by the outpouring of sympathy and support from both the heritage movement and the general public at large.

As someone who has worked on all the damaged vehicles over the last thirty years, I would like to express my personal thanks.

Well, I've put a few quid in to the fund.

 

Also who ever dose the web site, knew what s/he was doing to put up the announcement that the 11 o'clock was cancelled and why, and within about 5 hours of the vandalising been found an appeal to help pay for the repairs was on the home page with a photo of one of the damaged coaches, without using the crowfund which seams to be normal these days so it is all kept in house for better management.

 

Yes indeed - why lose some 10% of the donations via a crowdfunding site, if you can manage it yourselves?

Bit of sad news from the NYMR today.

Heard today, Thurs 3-8-17 that Les Barwick passed this morning.
The Funeral will be in Thornton Le Dale at a date to be arranged.

I am sure many people on the NYMR will have memories of him.
PW Supervisor until 1999 and a thorn in the side of various occupants of Park St.
Awarded the BEM back in the 80s for services to volunteering I believe.

I think we will have to update the sign at Les's Leap in honour of his memory.

 

Repton in the rain this morning (3 Aug).

I was told it was scheduled to double-head the 11.30 to Pickering with 80136, but when that train departed Repton was still under the coaling stage. Unfortunately I had to leave just after that, so I don't know what happened next.

Mr Barwick was one of the main reasons why the NYMR has some of the best maintained P Way, and the best kit to look after it, in the business. A sad loss indeed.

 

It is terrible the vandalism of the NYMR LNER coaches, How bad is the damage ? Is it mainly the windows smashed or other damage also ?
My own railway the Swindon Cricklade has suffered vandalism in the past too, the worst being youngsters setting one coach of the two coach thumper unit on fire. It was totally destroyed, so hot the glass in every window even melted. It was due to be running service trains just days later and the interior had just recently been refurbished.

Until covered space is available, could the railway cover them with tarpaulins when they are not in use. I covered a coach recently in quite reasonable quality tarps and it cost me about £250. It is more like £700 if you want high quality PVC ones. It makes it less obvious as something to spray paint etc.

 

Unfortunately tarpaulins flap and wear the varnish off the mouldings, so are not suitable for fully restored vehicles, nor are they practicable for carriages in service on a daily basis.
