Apart from the boiler work mentioned above, does 34007 need much work on her chassis? I thought I had read somewhere that she was very tired. How's her new tender coming along?

    Thanks

Talking to some of the chaps at Ropley a while back, apparently the cylinder for Swanage has been cast using a 3D printed polystyrene pattern. Apparently a the new middle cylinder for a Bulleid pacific is a first in preservation

Anybody know which 47 might be arriving, or will this break a non disclosure agreement until it actually happens?

Don't forget the freight is out again tomorrow & the weather should be much nicer.......

I have no idea why the TT for the weekend is still not up on the website, but the important times for the freight are......

    Alton Dep 11:16

    ARL Dep 12:22

    Alton Dep 13:20

    ARL Dep 14:27

Brake Van rides will be available & the freight is non stop in each direction! :)

And to whet your appetite, a pretty pic of the 9F lifting the freight out of Bennett's siding this morning.

You must have been the chap I could see on the lineside. I was on the bridge at M&4M station. Did you time your picture to coincide with the brief slip? Amazingly, the sun poked out of the clouds as it pulled up towards the station.

No decision on 34007 overhaul timing or location has yet been taken. There are options being discussed.

I think the picture is "tweaked"....there is something odd about most of the colours which makes me suspect that the smoke is a little "enhanced".

@John Petley 's post #147 mentions a "slip" so that could explain the extra smoke....

Mr Ryding seems to do this to all his photos. Significant enhancement of colour and contrast - for some reason it makes me think of the paintings of Thomas Kinkade...

The light was quite interesting at the time, although I don't remember it being quite so vivid, but I could be wrong. You can see that the sun was just about coming out but there was a lot of cloud around - in fact, 92212 sat in M+4M station for a few minutes, pulled out towards Alton in a further patch of sunlight and then that was it - solid cloud, rain arrived within an hour and a thoroughly miserable afternoon. Unfortunately, I can't post my definitely "untweaked" picture for comparison. I'm one of those dinosaurs who still enjoy using an old 35mm film camera and by the time I get round to using the film up, printing it, finding a scanner and posting it up here, no one is going to be remotely interested! I can say, however, that during the brief slip, the black smoke was rising to the heavens. By the time 92212 passed me, however, she had settled down to emitting just a "decent" exhaust, which satisfied me and, I trust, wouldn't have upset Mr PaulHitch too much!

I still trust that the explanation in Post 152 proves to be the correct one. Otherwise MHR management has some work to do I fear

All crews are struggling with keepinga clean exhaust at the moment, as the quality of the coal currently in stock is very variable. There is a high dust content which n easily escape up the chimney. Judging by the smell of 76017 whilst I was working at Alresford station on Tuesday, it also has a high sulphur content.

No one has mentioned the landslip on Sunday morning which led to the curtailment of the first up service at M4M and the cancellation of Sunday's freight run. Pity, because the weather was decent.

Apologies for the late reply my computer went "bang" last Sunday & the Doc only imformed me it was terminal yesterday! :(

(Thank god for John Lewis for providing an affordable replacement. :))

Yes that was me, with a mate stood watching, instead of playing with troublesome trucks....... not often we get to see the freight being lifted out of Bennetts!

We're still waiting to hear if "The Management" are going to dock our wages for not grafting........ :Nailbiting:

    Excuse me?.......

That was the exact moment 300+ tons, trying to go the other way took hold!

The driver was inching the loco forward so that the couplings didn't snatch - the wheel slip was brief before the 9F mastered its task. ;)
