The Fellsman 2017

Good as the MN will be, my regional bias does not pwrmit me to think of it in quite the same eschelon as a Scot

 

After a baptism of fire Guardsman has become star performer. Echo the thoughts of others that it will be a speedy return to service once taken out. We need a pool of class 7's and 8s available.

Fairly sure this is correct. There was one chocolate and cream mk1 with Statesman branding used for a few years on the Fellsman, but that's not been seen this year. All the other coaches in the set have been WCRC branded (excluding their Pullman's) and the same rake this year has been used for the NWCE and the CME's originating from Crewe/Liverpool.

There was a Statesman set (of Mk2's?) which was used for diesel charters in Pullman livery. I had wondered if these have now been painted into the blood and custard livery that the Hosking stable seems to be going with.

Maybe my wires are crossed but I recall when the 2017 season was announced there was mention of stock maintenance and motive power being supplied by Carnforth. Perhaps the former aspect has not occured, there are some apparently Statesman coaches visible outside CDD.

and not a shed in sight!!

 

A check on RTT showed that SG left Clitheroe 2E at 19.04 and the preceding service train arrived in Blackburn at 19.08 - so the section was clear, no stop at Whalley. SG took full advantage and blasted up Wilpshire Bank arriving at Ramsgreave & Wilpshire 9E and she sounded magnificent. If this was the last run before overhaul then it was a good 'un! Whether watching or riding, in recent times SG has consistently produced the goods, let's hope for a speedy return.

Scots Guardsman approaching Gisburn & climbing through Langho this evening. Was caught out by the use of platform 2 & rapid departure from Preston so tried a going away shot but I'm not sure it was worth it.

As far as I know Statesman Mark 2s have never been used on the Fellsman. They were used on Statesman diesel charters, which have not run recently. Some of the Mark 2s came to Carnforth in January. I have not seen them since and do not know what is happening to them.

Again AFAIK WCRC have always provided the coaches for the Fellsman and not Statesman. Most have been WCRC but Scottish RPS Mark 1s have also been used as well as a Statesman Mark 1 kitchen car. GWR saloon 9004 from the Queen of Scots set has also been used but not recently.

Cheers for that Andrew, my wires crossed re the coaches being looked after at Carnforth.
Back to the earlier point, why a coach fewer than earlier seasons when demand so obviously high?

 

There are a number of what appears to be freshly painted mk2's in a sort of pullman livery but also with statesman branding on the ends at carnforth, or at least there were till very recently.

 

That's what they use on, for example, the West Highland and Jacobite Statesman, isn't it?
