I fear you may be right but I live in hope that a little more reason might get applied relatively soon!

So are you suggesting the folk who devote enormous amounts of time restoring locos like P&O are unreasonable?

You are not going to catch me out that easily. I do find it a little strange that a railway like the GWSR which has suffered so many civil engineering problems is prepared to countenance a machine of such mass. The place of such things is on the main line but then "Clan Line" fulfills this function with great competence already.

Certainly IMHO "newbuilds" of express passenger types ought to be made suitable for mainline running

Think it would be more reasonable to get it out on the mainline which could use its power instead of tootling along a billiard table, but for getting it so far they should be given medals.

    Damn! :D

As for GWSR, just goes to show that it clearly doesn't bother the money men, and we certainly have enough of them!

A few problems with mainline running, first is all the bits and pieces you need, of course that's just money and not insurmountable, but an extra, what, £30k? Then there's the fact we haven't got a mainline connection, and the small dedicated band of volunteers who work on it probably couldn't sustain all the work required for running on the mainline, vita a lot more intensive for the people as well as the engine running on the mainline! That said, wouldn't it be *nice* to see it somewhere down south with clan line on a railtour somewhere... :)

It ought to bother them. Even lines with substantial turnovers have wafer thin surpluses.

To get back on topic - our `special ` train `Waterloo Sunset ` will go ahead on 6th October. We will happily sell more tickets so if you fancy a `jolly` riding behind Taw Valley and help 82045`s future just get in touch. Tickets are £30 and include entertainment at Kidderminster and lunch. Full details on our website under news.

Sorry to interrupt gentlemen and thank you S A C Martin for the apology.;)

I can't find it. Can you provide a direct link?
What time does one have to be at Bridgnorth? If getting there by train, what time does one have to be at Kidderminster?

From SVRLive, in turn from the Trust's monthly news items:

The trip will be Bridgnorth-Kidderminster with a relaxed three-hour stopover at Kidderminster ("we plan to make this a very pleasant experience for passengers"). There are no public trains that day, so public transport to Bridgnorth would presumably be by bus. I don't think I have seen times. An email to Barbara might be necessary?

    Hope this helps

Details are here and each news page for the last few months. http://www.82045.org.uk/news/82045_news-jun17.html

Times are not set in stone yet but we plan to depart Bridgnorth at 11am. Approx. three hours at Kidderminster and back at Bridgnorth at 4pm (ish). The day includes lunch and a film show in the museum. In addition to being in memory of our assistant publicity officer we hope to raise funds to kick start 82045`s Future Fund.

Please note that the footplate rides are both sold now.

Please email me if more information is needed.

    Regards,
    Barbara Massau

As a taster of what the future might hold for 82045, if it ventures onto Southern territory, there are some interesting photos of the class on duty on the Southern Region, where several were allocated (only one 77xxx, 77014, made it to the South for some reason). Even in workaday condition, these smart 2-6-2Ts look impressive and business-like. I'm a fan of steam locos big and small but 82045 will definitely be a most welcome addition!

From what I understand the reason why 77014 arrived on to the Southern was to cover for the withdrawn U class locos at Guildford shed.

Thank you for that. I have seen photos of it at Guildford Shed but I was not aware of the reason why it was sent there. Makes sense now!

Wasn't it transferred for a railtour that never happened?

The tanks are being constructed at Dinas on Welsh Highland railway. They will not be ready for some months yet and until the loco is on it`s wheels there is nowhere to put them anyway. The loco is on jacks at present which will not hold the weight with tanks. We still hope to wheel this year and the interminable machining of axle boxes is coming to a close. The amount of work that has gone into the axle boxes is unbelievable.

One source of funds used by both Tornado and 82045 is regular monthly payments. You can start with £5 for 82045. It is not a spectacular sum but providesa steady guaranteed income

Actually we have a number of standing orders which are less than £5 per month. It`s all welcome! :)
