Part of the instruction was that trains were not to pass each other within the limits of the ESR - but, of course, you knew all of that.

It wasn't me that doubted your explanation, James, but I know there are those who are quick to take offence at folk who do, hence my light hearted remark @mrKnowwun. As I am sure you have gathered my wisdom amounts to the square root of naff all on such matters so I certainly would not presume to question.
I am sure all those that pop by this place are very grateful for you taking time to share some insight whenever you can so please don't be deterred even if your instinct is to avoid the perceived critics.

Couple of shots from yesterday. The shot at Test Lane certainly didn't disappoint

If knowledge of the arcane operating restrictions on the modern railway were, time permitting, more often explained, it would only be to the benefit of the railway community as a whole.

Here's my offerings from the trips on the 16th and 23rd. Captured at Beaulieu Road, Test Lane and Walworth (just north of Andover).

    Enjoy!

Delays at Basingstoke were caused by discussions re bridge. All water turned up this week and watering went to schedule.
For the detailed track bashers we passed through the up platform in the down direction at Dorchester South, a benefit of being late and being held at Wool for the up SWR train. In 18 DCE's (or its Three Bridges variant) the first time I have done that. Of course for second week running watered in the Lymington Platform at Brockenhurst, which is unusual as a through platform let alone for steam. So some benefits from the temporary Waterloo timetable.

The "benefit of the railway community" is top of nobody of importances' list of priorities. It surprised me that James felt it necessary and had the time to convey the two bits of information but it at least dispelled a problem with the loco that was implied.

Just a big thank you to all those who have posted such wonderful images of this magnificent locomotive. Despite comments about her being pushed I, as a total layman, was pleasantly surprised at how little assistance the tail end charlies were providing. I know I am biased as a limited traveller by rail in BR days the greatest proportion of my steam mileage was behind No.9 and it never disappointed. A very BIG thank you to John Cameron for allowing me to continue to enjoy his Big Green Racing Machine. I do wish she was not being stuffed and mounted but I respect the owners decision and can never give him enough praise for his unstinting support of the finest A4 for so many years, fifty years ago I never thought I would still be able to enjoy the sight and sound of her working so well. John Cameron you are a true hero.

Seems NR do not want it up the main line or in Waterloo again in the evening for the final trip this year, hopefully not a precedent for future years. Also even earlier departure as Belmond "own" the 0844 slot at Victoria and they have a Bristol Train that day.
Still gives those in West London and Staines two trains very close together, seems to be a theme this week two have pairs of trains in close proximity.

Currently waiting to join today's run at Woking. There could be trouble ahead. There are already signalling problems.....at Woking!

Rather a lot of diesel shoving so far as the train is delayed. Only heard the Class 47 so far at the rear of the train

I saw it between Farnborough and Fleet, but it wasn't doing much streaking as it was, as usual, following the Poole stopper. Oh well, it makes photographing it easier and I've put a few shots on Flickr. They're in my 'Main Line Steam 2015-17' Album and this is the link if anyone would like to see them:

    Hope they're of interest.
