You have just won the lottery and you have 1 million pounds to spend on railway preservation (or indeed other historic stuff). It has to be achieved for the 1 million so no rebuilding the Somerset and Dorset or some other project that would cost more. What would you spend it on ?

Would a million be enough for what some lines could do with? Look at how much the SVR's latest share issue's for.

A large storage warehouse and workshop facility centrally located and rail connected.

Then I could offer storage and restoration facilities for groups lacking in undercover space for a peppercorn rent.

I don't think £1 million would be anything like enough these days..................

  5. I'd make a start on an airworthy new-build Hawker Typhoon 1B, personally.

I'd actually like to have a heritage railway holiday, something like the Orient Express and the Great Britain. I'd need the money as these 2 would be expensive but fun companions.

ITV weather girl, Lucy Verasamy. I can never remember what the weather actually is when she presents it.

I know, I have the same problem when Georgina Burnett does the local weather forecast on the BBC.

Simple - reinstate the line from Stoke to Oakamoor at least, with some good ballast and new sleepers. Extend to Alton Towers if there is anything left.

Today's Linear Scrapyard can be tomorrows Gem. Look at Locos like Galatea, King Edward 2, British India Line etc etc. All were in scrap condition very recently and yet are now main line runners

A mill you say? Doesn't go far, so no Billinton K class possible there! That leaves a bit towards the IWSR's original carriage restoration project and a bit towards the IWR 2-4-0t (ex-digitate, Vectii), some to Maespoeth (for years now, the Corris website has unfailingly provided a chuckle just when I've most needed one), but, sorry to say, the way it's going right now, the bulk of my railway related activity would focus on getting my collection out along with myself. Being partial to astronomy as well, I'll be up a mountain somewhere warm, to await the grim reaper with my memories, a smallish garden railway and a Dobsonian telescope!

Build simple sheds for the service rakes of carriages on as many railways as possible, so said carriages don't spend half the year when not in service rotting in the rain - oh and banning the linear scrapyard stuff from ever using these sheds. . . . someone else can find the dosh to keep the little or no hope-ers from the rain!
